Hey everyone, Ive got a question. I have the parts together to do an all black swap. So I removed my headliner last night so that I could recover it black, but I was also planning on removing the old material so the new material would stick. Well, im not sure if anyone has tried this on a Sable/Taurus headliner, but the shell is made of really flaky fiberglass. Anyway, getting to the point, after trying to remove the old foam, the fiberglass was gouged up a lot and i was afraid to just recover it. Well, i was gonna give that a try but a guy at work offered to try to spray some rhino liner on it, i thought that would fill in some of the gouges in it, and also offer some sound deadening... well that worked okay, but it still looks like crap, and from all the handling, i think the shell is too weak/heavy to go back up. Anyway, does anyone know if there is a way to make a new headliner or if maybe a gen1 headliner, without a sunroof, would that work? If anyone in the florida area may have a headliner they might be selling or whatever, please let me know, or if anyone has some advice.

THANKS A LOT!

When I converted to a black interior I just pulled the old fabric off and left the foam. With 3M spray adhesive, it stuck quite well and continues to stick.

Yea, I tried the same thing with my old ******, removed the fabric but leaft the foam. A few months later, the headliner material fell down cuz the glue pulled the foam loose and im back where i started. Didnt want to make the same mistake twice. I was thinking about finding a good headliner at a Junkyard, i got a lot of em near the house. And apply the new material over the old material, not the foam... Who knows... thanks for the info anyone

You must use a good name brand (ie 3M) spray adhesive or it will fall down again. I like 3M super 77 myself.

I guess I will give that a try, I guess I gotta see how much the junkyard wants for a headliner. The glue i used last time was the glue that AZ sold with the headliner kit... so who knows how good it was...

****, I just yanked my old headliner out, padding and all and replaced it with a black one out of a regular taurus. I've had absolutly no problem at all once I got the weatherstripping on the inside to stay where it was sposed to.

I was hoping for an original black headliner, but the junkyards here all have the ghetto interior colors. Blue, Red, green... if you havent seen them b4, be glad. I think i will just find one of those and pull the material off, but not really screw with the foam padding but apholster over it...

You say that like there's something wrong with that beautiful color of green interior. C'mon! I was considering a swap until I noticed that i never saw a green interior with bucket seats and a center console...

I hope you realize I'm only kidding. that's prolly the ugliest color I think I've ever seen in a car. :vomit:

I donno, the green may be the least worst of all the others anyway, its more like an evergreen color, i saw it in a 95 Taurus wagon we had at the dealership the other day. Too much green for me I think. Still I like the regular colors, mocha, black, grey... you know....

i run an upholstery business, i can send you a recovered black one for a decent price, I can even do an embossed "SHO" logo, I have it on mine and it looks very good.
