Headlight partII thanks for the advice guys, but my headlights still don't work!!

When I took apart my headlight switch there were no burnt connections.I installed the switch that I purchased at the scrapyard, still didn't work. So I decided to take out my shop manual and check the wiring diagram.
Steve stated"Check Fuse Link "D". It feeds into a BK/O wire and supplies all of the missing circuits.". In my shop manual from ford, not hayes, the d fuse link is situated near the left strut tower , bolted on to the regulator. It is a black and orange wire. So I took apart all of the tape, heat shrink material and found something funny. It was just a wire, with no fuse link, just a wire soldered to three other small wires. They kinda looked rotted out, so I cut them, resoldered them, and taped it back up. Put my headlight switch back on, and still no headlights, all of the rest of the lights work.
I wonder why they call this a fuse link if there are no fuses or fuse links that I can see. Just a plain black and orange wire.
On the regulator there is a ground, alternator , another small red wire for my alarm(they are all attached by a bolt), and another small black wire that you just push into a small connector. Any feedback anyone. Can someone tell me how do I know when a fuse link is gone bad if it is just a piece of wire? I know that there are no fuses to check in the fuse box because the headlight work with the headlight swith and fuse wire.
