Have noticed in the mustang mags that there is a projector type headlight assy. for the 86-92 mustang. Have measured my headlight (I have an 89 sho) and the headlight is the same size as the mustangs except that the shos is moulded with the parking light. do you think I could cot the shos headlight out of the assy and seal off any openings with plastic or plexi or whatever and then install the mustang headlights? I want to run with the aftermarket HID converson bulbs and ballasts.

I always thought they were a different size, but if you measured and think they are the same, I think it could work. As always, keep us updated.

Cool finding, Ian!

I'd go to a yard and check difference. As for the quality of aftermarked projector headlamps, dont expect too much. But its a nice basis for mending in some real projector units!

I think JM Manufacturing in City of Industry makes an HID replacement for the SHO bulb, and has bright/dim capability unlike most others.
Not cheap, but none are. They make a great HID driving light that fits the SHO perfectly

The stock SHO headlamp creates too much glare for HID lighting. Try stuff in a 130W H4 bulb, place it correct in focal point and check out beam pattern.... its a joke. If you really want HID with high and low beam in a 9007, goto http://www.hidkits.com/ and look at the "9007 Bi-Xenon". (I think even they have 9004). Also note that they have not ranked high on my quality rating. Don't expect much life out of them nor happy oncoming traffic. But hey, if you want to learn more about HID lighting, it can be a fun toy to start with.

Ordered a set of projector lamps for a mustang and am going to try to hook them up to a headlight assy I got from a wrecked taurus. aaaai'm going to cut out the taurus hlight and try to mount the mustang light in. A good winter project. I'll let you know how it turns out, if it does. Wish me luck.
