Thankfully, my football season is over. Now I can start working to support SHO mods/maintenance. One of the first things I noticed when I got my SHO were the headlights. While driving at night, I noticed that my headlights are teh suck! I can't see anything! The pattern doesn't spread wide enough for me to see where I'm turning, they are very dull, and overall I dislike them. Might just be that on my previous vehicle, a 96 Jeep Cherokee, I had replaced the headlights with H4 bulbs/housings, and a super nice pair of Hella 500 Amber fog lights were added to the bumper. Not to mention, it was a little higher up, due to me lifting it.

What have you guys done to improve you night time driving conditions? I would like to replace the bulbs, housings if I have to. I would also like to add a pair of fog lights, they helped me out a lot during bad weather on my Jeep. I don't really want to spend a whole bunch on this though... So, if you have any bright ideas, I would be happy to hear them. Thanks in advance.

lighting improvement

I've just replaced the stock dim, foglights with Hella 20/20 combination fog & driving lights. A huge improvement these lights have a fog & driving light in each light. One switch ( which fits in stock opening perfectley) the awitch controls fog or driving mode. These are 55 watt. so you have 110 watts of driving or fog beam. Lights fit in stock location with a little modification of stock brackets.

wireing can be a little challanging. (two relays)
But worth effort IMHO.

If you want something cheap but good, try the silverstar bulbs $40 at autozone or checkers. They will get you better and brighter light, also check the aiming of your head lamps they tend to be aimed to the floor and last a good set of fog or driving lights help a lot.

WHAT???? There is no factory fog lights in the 3Gen SHO's :nut: , I guess you're talking for a 1 or 2 gen sho.

Also I believe some new wiring is in order if you get brighter bulbs for the head lights. I adjusted mine and it made a world of a difference. I'd like to get two new ones cause my passenger one is just slightly getting "fogged" over. Driver side one is almost brand new due to some previous body work.

Add a couple of lights and a relay equipped high wattage harness for the headlights themselves. The stock bulbs will even be brighter with the harness upgrade but most I have seen will not operate the DRL's. Below is a diagram I made of mine that allows the DRL's to still operate. I set it up so should any rrelay fail I still have headlights, just at the stock levels of power.

Wiring headlights
And here is a shot of the difference. Kind of easy to see which one has the bigger wire but same size lamps (Silverstars).

I had a 96 grand cherokee too. That thing lit up everything, I had a brush guard on it with 2-6in 100watt lights, 2-6x4 55watt lights, and 2 2x4 55 watt lights in the factory fog light spot.

I have had bad expirience with silverstars. I had to replace 4 bulbs in about 2 months in my fog lights. But i think i had a bit of a heat issue there too. I bue the coolblues instead now, far cheaper and with about the same results.

that's why you use the wiring harness.
also, the harness will provide your Silverstars with brighter whites.
this is the gospel truth!

Daytime Running Lights

They use only about 9 volts to illuminate the headlights only whenever the car is running. I understand some SHO's did not come with them and some do not like them. They are easy to disable by pulling the fuse. However, driving a black car I feel it best to have them operational.

Are those the amber/orange ones that are next to the headlights? If so, if I want those on, I have to turn them on. This wouldn't change with a new wiring harness will it?

That's not how they work. The headlights still get 12V, they just pulse the headlights on and off really quickly.

more HIDs with projecotrs.
I like variaty, so the red has the S2Ks (low beam only) and the dark green one has Bi-xenons E55s (high and low beam) and has anyone completed that shroud yet on the other gen3 SHOcontinental. What kind of projecotrs are they. Did they come out of a car or are they regualr hellas or something?
