head dissassembly

I had to rmove my heads and was curious on the procedure for removing valves/replaing valve stem seals. Also, does anyone know of any othe source for valves other than SHO Shop?

p.s. nothing personal Tom just can't afford $480 right now. thumb

The 1MM larger valves by wonderful coincidence are a perfect match from rather common 3.0 mid-90s Nissan truck valves. I paid $3.10ex / $3.60in each for them at a Portland Nissan dealer.

I forget exactly what model motor they came from, but it's a place to start looking. You will need to use Honda Vtec keepers and spring tops as the tops of the stems are a tiny tiny bit undercut right at the top. Other than that they are a perfect fit. You will also need slightly larger seats. (which of course you would want for larger valves, no sense in the same inner diameter seats for the larger valves) Any machine shop worth a crap can get the seats by dimension and install them for you. I rebuilt a set of heads with this arrangement, and they worked perfectly.

  Procedure for removing vavles? cams are out. With 94,000 miles and no valve adjustment shims looked great. I'm heading to a Yamaha dealer shortly. He says he has 'em.

so Nook, youre happy with this setup then i take it? because im thinking about doing a performance rebuild in about 6 months or so on my heads and this sounds like a fantastic idea that you followed. what kind of performance did you see from this? thanks for the info in advance!

I actually did the work for someone else, who loved the work. That car lived in California, then he sold it thinking it was dead, but the coil pack was just unpluggde, then it by another conicidence would yp here with another member of the Utah club. Im waiting for it to come up for sale!!!

The guy that originally owned the heads, loved them, and were wonderful with the stage cams.
