Wheres the cheapest place to get a hold of some front hawk pads for the SHO? midwest wants 70 bucks and thats a lil above what i want to pay. I already ordered cross drilled/slotted rotors on ebay for 115 all together.

What other ceramic brands are just as good?

I've not used them but heard the Hawk pads will not work so well for just street applications as they are more of a competition grade and don't function at peak efficiency until heated up. Similarly, the consensus is to stay away from cross-drilled rotors as they will be susceptible to cracking under stress.
Perfromance friction carbon pads are a good price and streetable.

OK!!! LOL I have Cross drilled rotors on my Mustang and have no problems, also have Hawk Pads and they work awsome. I also put Hawk on my Wreckers also. Best pads for the money. $70 seems to be a good price. Check Jegs and Summit also. :thumb:

Im running with them on my 98 cobras. Stops very well. Although my old hawk pads did crack after 2/3's of wear.

If you watched "Motorweek" from 2 or 3 weeks ago (can also view archives at motorweeks' website), they had the brake upgrade specialist from Tirerack give a presentation on the different types of upgrades for pads and rotors, and they said the Hawk Pads are great for competition, but certainly not designed for the street because they will not work as well until heated up from repeated braking applications. Sure they'll stop the car, but if stopping distaces actually increase over other pads unless you are on the pedal hard,, then not the way to go. They (Tirerack) have a new pad now also which is a great high performance pad without the drawbacks of the cold performance issues, but I forgot the name; give tirerack a shout and they'll fill you in....

Hawk has different grades of pads, HPS and HP+. The HPS is their street pad and it is fine for street use. I am many others use them on the street and have no problems, I like them a lot. The HP+ is not recommended for street use, but it will work if you know that they aren't going to work very well when cold and you leave that extra bit of room between you and the car in front. When they get warmed up though, they could make your nose bleed!

shobote, were you thinking of the akibono pads by any chance? They are ceramic pads, but supposedly they perform very well. I believe Don Mallinson runs these pads on his Gen 3.

Perhaps the tirerack guy was refering to the HP+ pads.

HP Plus work fine when cold, trust me. :) Of course they work better when warm, but they perform very well when cold. I've got them on a set of 13" rotors and Chris has them on a set of 12" rotors. Both perform very well, but they are noisey and dust massively.

OK; I found the link that explains the pads from the tirerack brake upgrade expert; http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/goss/2432.shtml
He says these new pads are combo carbon-ceramic Gransport series from Satisfied which are great for street/track, highly heat resistant and produce little dust too.

more rubber, more HP.....
Anybody try the PBR/Axxis Ultimate pads? They are marketed as another combined street/track pad. I think they are supposedly more aggressive than the PBR/Axxis Metal Masters.

Triple agreed. I have the Hawk HPS+ pads on the front and upon a first stop dead cold they will send you through the windshield.
