Poor choice of pads? I thought brakes pads were one of the areas that we actually had choices... Porterfield, Carbotech, Akebono, EBC, Hawk, etc.

There is almost no race friction available...

Hawk - HPS only
EBC - Greenstuff only

etc...

Well, I don't run in the beginner group, I'm intermediate or advanced, about 200 atw, and I'm fine w/ 15-20 min sessions on the HPS. But then again I like to enter the turns sideways so I use the tires to slow me down.

Slideways!

At this point we will wait until Beth is back before posting the for sale thread...

If anyone wants the pads just PM / email / call us.

How are Hawk pads different from PFCM pads? I have yet to see them side by side anywhere. But they are both Carbon Metallic pads right? Hawk says theirs is a "Ferro" compound? I would guess that "Ferro" is Ferrous meaning iron? So are Hawk pads, a carbon metallic pad, with some iron added in the mix? I would guess that they might stop a little bit better, but also be a little harder on the rotors?

Both PFCM pads, and Hawk pads ask that you "Bed" them into your rotors. So I'm trying to see the real differences. Maybe someone with some 11.6" rotors and some Hawk pads, will run next to me at 100 MPH and see who stops first. ;)

Someone on here has to have had experiences with both pads. And both have a "High" performance version, so make sure you don't compare apples and oranges here... ;)

Well, a test stop won't show anything. A stock '89-'93 SHO with sticky tires would win that test.

It's in repeated stops like that.

Anyway, I had run, PFCM on a couple of SHOs, and I run the HPS on the LGT for the winter. Not a direct comparison, but close enough.

I don't much care about dust, but the HPS are better with less dust. The cars weigh about the same, and I would say that the HPS will have a longer life. Neither would be good for hard track days, however. the PFCM were better than the Ford pads at the track, but still faded, although later in the session.

I'm running the HP+'s and I love them. They are noisy, but that is to be expected with a performance brake pad.

That sucks, mine are quiet.

Personally, I say skip on the HPS and go to the HP+. HPS isn't all that great of a pad when you have the HP+ available.

My HPS are quiet.

That said, I run Carbotech AX6 during the summer. They are the former Panther Plus, which is the equivalent of the HP+

Both of these pads are a great pad for cars that do track days and don't switch out for the street. But, you put up with a lot more dust and noise.

Now, neither dust nor noise bother me for a street/track pad. But it does bother some folks, and if you don't do track events the HP+ and AX6 are overkill.

The HPS and Porterfield R4S are excellent street and autocross pads.

HP + are quiet? Seriously, no ******** or nasty stuff intended here, but how? Mine sounds like a dumptruck when stopping hot (normal DD)

EDIT: I love the pads, period... Best pad you can buy for the street, they are just noisy (I dont care myself, but I had to say it)

That sucks, mine are quiet.

They're quiet... Rotor cast (not all blanks are created equally) and break-in could be a major cause (I season the rotor with less aggressive pads first). I really haven't had any real complaints except for a little dust, but even my stock Mustang pads dust like crazy and they don't stop well at all.

My Wilwood's, on the otherhand.... Those things would pierce your ears if you did a normal/light stop next to a fence or curb. My ear started ringing once from thost things. They were a cold track pad mated with the 4-*** calipers I used to have.

Just an update, thank you zak for grabbing a pair of the HPS for your SHO.

If anyone needs brakes we still got plenty of the HPS left.
