ok the other day i moved the car out into the street to wash my 66' went to start the SHO to move it back after, NOTHING

WTF

buddy came over, no clue wtf was wrong, woudlent start, no clicking, no trying to turn over nothing, he used his fluke meters wire to jump the ground on the starter to the battery and it started fine, so he put it in my garage until we could fix it properly

that was last thursday

flash to today, we were gonna jump it agian to get it to his garage BUT it started on its own, ok we are still gonna fix it anyway

get it to his house put a new ground on the stater to the frame, it sparked and wouldrnt start WTF, tried to jump it w/ the fluke wire agian it started

then we ran a wire right to the battery, wouldent start agian

tried to start it on it own NOTHING

so we jumped it w/ the fluke wire agian and it started

anyone have ANY clue wtf it could be?

this is what my mechanic buddy said to say

no start, power to starter solenoid terminals when car rest. intermitten ground on solenoid. when cranking, no power to solenoid, thin 16 gauge wire from ground strap on solenoid to neg. battery starts, 4gauge from ground terminal on starter to chassis ground produces spark at neg terminal of battery and at starter solenoid. car sometimes starts without modification

I am lost with your communication! :oogle:

Anyways, are you saying that the thin 16 guage wire running to the starter soleniod is not receiving power? IIRC, that wire has a fusible link on it. If it is good and this wire is still not receiving power, bypass your clutch switch and see if that does the trick. If neither does, check your ignition switch for output.

Hope this helps.

the heavy, 4-6 gauge wire on the solenoid doesnt recieve power during cranking. i havent checked the 16 gauge cause i couldnt see where it went clutch switch was bypassed and nothing. havent checked ignition, but since a 14 gauge wire from ground strap on solenoid to battery neg, works, i dont think its ignition output.

You are saying that your ground wire, on the top upper starter-to-trans casing bolt, is receiving power?

There is suppose to be a ground wire, the black one, running to the upper bolt and not having power at all. Then you have 2 red wires running to the SAME post on the starter soleniod, one bringing power from the battery and the other receiving power from that and carrying it out to the rest of the car. Last is the spade connecter, 16 gauge wire, that brings power from the ignition to jump the starter soleniod across to the other post, closest to the engine, to crank your starter over.

Sounds like someone replaced the wires and the replacement colors are opposite. I have 2 SHO's like that, red is ground and black is positive. But if that was the case, I do not believe you would have any sort of lights coming on, because there is no power running to the soleniod post to provide voltage to the accessories.

If your wires are installed correctly, I would say it's an issue coming from the ignition wire. If not, more than likely a dead solenoid, which = bad starter.

Easy way to check the ignition wire is to buy one of those voltage tester, you know...clip the end on a ground, then place the tip on the connector, while having someone turn the key, and see if the light bulb lights up.

If it doesn't then you'll have to find out what it is from; the ignition switch, fuse, and ect.

the thing that doesnt make sense though, if we run a new ground stright to the battery the battery with the cable from a fluke meter the car starts

thats the only way it'll start

Repair or replace your ground wire from the battery to the bolt on the starter then. Or clean all grounding points first.

That makes it mucho easier to understand! :salute:

Then I would say you need a new ground/something is loose with your current ground if when you run that wire from the starter to the battery and then it starts.

only that wire to the battery will start the car

we tried a new grond to the frame, nothing, and we ran a wire to the battery nothing

only that friggen 80 doller fluke wire will ground properly
