I have leaking valve cover gaskets and I really need to get a new fuel pump first. Id have to save up for the valve cover gaskets. I know they leak onto the plug wire ends and onto the spark plugs, but can I drive it for a while like this? Its running fine, just wonder how long it could be before I have it besome an issue? Thanks guys

I wont drive it with a bad fuel pump, just asking if its ok for a while to drive with leaking valve cover gaskets. The fuel pump has a bad check valve, it takes 2-3 key turns to prime before it will start up and idle.

Fix what you think needs to be fixed first. You can drive with leaking gaskets. It might foul a plug or wire at some point but it can wait a little bit.

the leaking check valve is less of an issue to me than the leaking valve cover gaskets.

if you let the plug wells get significant oil in them, the spark starts shorting through the oil to the head. this destroys the plug wires and plugs. so, pretty soon you need valve cover gaskets, plugs and plug wires.

I already have new plugs and wires set aside and already have the new fuel pump, need to set aside for the valve cover gasket $$

My 95 ran fine but when it was time to do a tune up, the plug wells were already full of oil, like yours, and who knows for how long.
Long story short, the car would not pass the emmissions test due to bad cats, and I think the two are connected.
That is your worst case scenario.
I suggest you pull the intake and dry out the wells in the meantime, but clean up and reuse the original plugs. Then keep an eye on the front side to see how soon oil re-appears.
But get those gaskets soon if your car has converters.

You can recondition your present gaskets if they're not hardened up. Take them out, clean them with a rag soaked with brakleen, use a small brush to spread some RTV around the gasket channels on the valve covers, install the cleaned gaskets, then lightly brush some RTV on the sealing surfaces of the gaskets and install.

It's worked well for me in the past.

I thought the imporatant part of changing the valve cover gaskets is for the small rings with the valve cover set that sit near the spark plugs go bad and leak. Wouldnt those not be reusable even with rtv?

the right way is to change the valve cover gaskets and the tube rings if your broke you can get by for while with the RVT the old ones
