Ok, guys. I've utilized the search function to no avail. I opened up my Oil Cap to have a look see @ my Cam Lobe (the only one visible.) Well, i coud not see the top of the lobe to look for the "tree ring" wear, however, i did notice that the sides of the lobe have tiny indentations and hash marks (scratches in it). :( The engine has been primarily highway miles (141K) and has not had the 60K that i know of. I've just always kept the oil changed religously. So, all i've left to buy is wires and shims but i'm in College and $$$ is tight! What does this wear tell you more experienced guys?

When I did that to look @ my cam lobe before doing my upper 60k, I thought my cam had scratches all over it too. But when I pulled my valve covers all my lobes were fine.
Don't know about your indentations, though.

That's normal on the sharp side edges of the cam lobe - it's the FACE (shiny) part of the lobe that you don't want anything other than dead-smooth & polished on.

Also, the heel portion of the cam - the portion opposite the lobe tip - does not touch the shim and these indications on the cam are due to its manufacture and not wear from use. It is that gap between the heel and the shim that is checked and set during the valve gapping.

Guys, you have no idea how much piece of mind you just gave me! I'm still a little concerned about its maintenance history. Time to do the right thing. I'm working TONS of overtime this week to pay for school first. Then, i'll be able to do what is needed. Again, THANK YOU!
