Took the car in for an oil change and they said the third brake light was out. Would be over $200 for them to replace so I told them "no" and that I'd find the part myself and do it. It's ordered for $93 online, but was just curious if any of you have done this yourselves and could offer any tips? I don't know how easy it will be, but figured it wouldn't be too difficult. I was hoping there would be a video out there, but I can't seem to find one on the current gen Taurus.

Thanks in advance!

High Mounted Stoplamp

Item Part Number Description
1 13A656 High mounted stoplamp cover
2 - High mounted stoplamp electrical connector (part of 13A613)
3 13A613 High mounted stoplamp
4 - Hook-and-loop strip
Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the LH rear head restraint. For additional information, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Seat Backrest - Rear in Section 501-10 .
  1. NOTE: The high mounted stoplamp cover is attached to the base with hook-and-loop strips.

Slide finger between the base and the cover to separate the hook-and-loop strip(s).
  1. Grasp the sides and pull the cover down to separate it from the high mounted stoplamp.
  1. Using a thin plastic flat-bladed tool, carefully unsnap the high mounted stoplamp connector from the rear window.
  1. Squeeze the 2 tabs and release the high mounted stoplamp from the rear window.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Finally got the part in. Started taking the old assembly off and noticed that it looks like the terminal came off stuck in the led light assembly. This seems like the problem to begin with...

The windows were tinted 2 years ago and the dealer who did the oil change were the only people who would've potentially had this part off. I'm thinking one of them pulled the terminal off and then just stuck it back on. I suppose it could've happened just now too but I bet the led strip probably works fine and it just needs the terminals working. The thing is how difficult is it to reconnect this terminal?
