Has anyone replaced that coin holder with a pocket?

I installed a aftermarket deck but I had to remove the coin holder as it will not fit all the way into slot now cause the wires and stuff from the deck are in the way.

I was wondering if there was a pocket that would fit in the din hole under the deck....you know the storage type pockets usually under the deck in cars...

my t-bird had it...I think...cant remember if my mustang did.

Some Taurus's actually came with a little DIN slot with a door on it, and there's also one that's just the pocket that holds tapes. ebay or a junkyard :thumb:

I have a pioneer avh-p6600 indash installed in my SHO and I just decided instead of a pocket, coin holder or any other options they have for that to fabricate my own. So I cut up a small piece of wood matching the slot size and added some nice black vinyl to it and stuck it perfectly in place and put a SHO decal on it, looks really good and as if it came from factory.

I had a SHO type emblem about 4 inches long and 2 1/2 wide that would cover the whole perfectly if I mounted it on a piece of plexi or something...problem is I lost it..

Not going to cram that coin holder back in so I was looking for options..just didnt know if there were any..

thanks
Mike

If you want to keep the coin holder and make the radio fit, remove the radio bezel(whole plastic insert the holds the radio and coin holder) there is a brace that starts at the top goes back to the depth of the radio and connects at the bottom(basically a U shape). If you cut out this piece at the top and at the lower 90 degree bend you should have plenty of clearance for your head unit and all the wires to slide all the way in. Keep the lower section of the brace to support the coin holder.

hope this helps

pocket

x2 on the boneyard i have replaced mine once when doing the stereo.I broke the hinge for the door trying to remove said pocket. Also the coin/cup holder is great except in an auto because when in park you can't open it all the way
and when you get where your going and slam it into park and your ice coffee
goes all over your console and rug. So i'm pretty sure any taurus/sable that has a console shifter(auto trans) will have the pocket from the factory.

i got my coin holder back in with an after market deck above it, you just have to creatively route the wires around, my deck has no internal amps so i have to run RCA lines to my two amps witch i would think takes up more space than a normal deck. so if i could do it you should be able to aswell.

I got rid of mine too. But i cut down a piece of dimond plate, painted it to match the green on the car, and put a yamaha badge on it. Its the only painted thing inside the car, and it looks nice.

When I bought my car it came with the pocket with a broken door. Since then I've replaced the stereo with a flip out Alpine DVD deck. Then since I wired up a 5.1 theater amp, I bought Alpine's DIN sized center channel speaker. That combined with the sub box on the deck gave my car a true 5.1 Dolby setup.

Also there's DIN sized sound processors, graphic equalizers, and even nav systems that can be stuffed in there as they are usually shallower allowing for more room for wires. I figured I'd use the space for something instead of just covering it up with a panel, but that's just me.
