Ok well while my short block is getting assembled i plan on working on the suspension and braking system on my race car. Right now i am looking at getting rid of the foot brake for a hand brake for pre loading the drive train for launching.

There are 3 options i have came up with but im not sure which is more practical.

Option 1: delete the footbrake and purchase a hydraulic Ebrake assembly. This would more than likely delete the function of the rear brakes with the pedal and only be operated with hand brake unless there is a way to make a T at each caliper.

Option 2: Find a cable E brake from another make of car and either have my cables modified or find a way to make it work.

Option 3: keep the foot brake pedal and make a quick release button to release the ebrake during launches. I am not fond of this idea because i would rather have complete control over the braking force in my hands and not locked with a pedal.

So what is everyones take on this?

Anybody have a idea of how to make this work the easiest way?

the auto disengage is easily disconnected.

somewhere back in the day, somebody did a thread describing how they used the Mustang park brake, modified the console to mount it, etc. iirc, it was not trivial, but pretty straightforward to do.

Gen3 Aussie taurus came with a handbrake. At least the cables and calipers could be used I guess.

I think I remember a thread where someone with a gen 1 or a 92 used a saturn parking brake lever? I can't imagine it'd be that hard to move your E brake cable over, or you can be super cool and use your left hand and put it in the door sill side like a porsche 944

Wire up a electronic release for the parking brake attached to the clutch pedal. Something adjustable so that you can set the point of release :)

Run an abs-compatable line lock on the rear brakes? My mustang has a set up from jegs and Id think you could just run the valves into the rear lines instead of the front.

i looked into this option long time ago. BMW 325i system is cool, but may be a little work to modify brackets for cables and think how to attach them to calipers. VW golf is really easy, but length may be the problem. Ford ******, i think , was kinda easy, but don't remember for sure what was the issue though. Installing hydraulic brake on driver's side is a lot easier, but you would need to weld a bracket to the floor.

I have purchased a CNC 412 series staging brake.

It is a inline staging brake so i can still keep all 4 brakes with the pedal but the handle will control the rear brakes hydraulically.

Any details on a compatible center console to support this mod? Looking at mine, I see very little room to cleanly add an e brake handle. I would love a handbrake, even though I have gotten quite skilled at snow slidin with my foot, it's less than ideal. I'll definitely be following this thread!

Well, me, for one. '99ish Saturn. Nice one-piece assembly. Works great.

Had the cables made by...damned if I can remember now, it's been half a dozen years. If you're REALLY interested I'll try to find it...

If I'm gonna be driving the thing again I gotta get around to making a leather boot to finish off the hole.

Is that a canister'o'vacuum back there? What does it do?

The underside looks so clean!

Aha! So that's what it looks like :) I thought maybe some newfangled stuff was involved with the swap-in of the Saturn system!
