Violent start
Well a compression or bump start in first gear above 5~8 mph would be a real jolter. When I do a bump start I do it in 2nd gear at about 5~ 15 mph... letting the clutch out briefly ... when I sense that it had started quickly engaging the clutch again letting the engine rev easily.
At what speed did you bump start it? Was the engine fully warmed up?
The battery check light sounds like you really bump started it a too high of a speed for the 1st gear.
The vehicle speed sensor (mounted on top of MTX transmission under speedometer cable) is a pretty cheap part at about $15. I doubt that it's causing much of your problems though. Go ahead & replace it & report back to us. You can be our test guinea pig to see if it sovles the problem.
