Is it possible to replace the Half Shafts with them out of the (now removed)tranny and just hanging by bailing wire to the car?

Has anyone tried the napa ones?/ Know anywhere else to get rebuilt ones?

Thanks,

Not really, you need to slide them into the tranny.

You can get them from Autozone, and there's another online place that's supposed to be really good, but I can't remember what it's called. If you do a search you'll find it. :thumb:

*edit* I did the search and found it for you, because I'm such a nice guy: http://www.raxles.com

Does it need to be in the tranny to losen the nut?
Not what i wanted to hear, the tranny is now in a different room than the sho. I dont really want to get the tranny rebuilt with new seals and then need to replace the drives side when i put the new axle in to losen it and then take it back out.
I have an autozone nearby, so that should work fine.

You won't need to replace the seal. There'll be a new one in there, so just slide in your axle after the tranny is installed. You'll be all set.

Ok dude im getting confused. :bonk:
I guess what i really need to know is can i loosen the halfshafts from the spindle without them(the halfshafts) being in the tranny. Is the torque taking the locknut off going against the plines that are in the spindle.
Glad to know someone else looks at the board at night :thumb:

I work midnights, so I'm on all night, every night.

yes, it is going against the splines on the shaft... I don't know how you're going to get that off...

Wait second, no there isn't a problem. Just put a bar through the lug studs like on the SHOPP guide and you should be able to loosen the hub nuts. :thumb:
