the other night i decided to open it up on a backstreet (because i do so like once ever 3 months). i drive an atx 93 by the way. well, i put the pedal to the floor, not forcefully mind you. and when i went to let off, the pedal was stuck down and the car kept accelerating. at this point i'm like "oh crap" so i slam as hard as i can on my brakes to slow it down a little bit, in doing so resulted in probably kiling my brakes and not good on my car period. while holding the brakes, i stuck my right foot under the gas pedal and forced it back towards me and finally regained control. this has never happend before. and i'm probably not going to do this again. i only take it to about 50mph, but man, the smell from the rubber was pretty intense...

the thing that made me upset was that i had brand spanking new tires put on like 2 weeks ago too, they're ok, but i mean, that wore it a little bit

How would that wear the tires? It would smoke the brake pads and rotors to all **** depending on how long and hard you pressed on them but really wouldn't do anything to hurt the tires unless I am really missing something.

I have had nothing but bad luck with electrical problems and cars myself lately. But my 88 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z has a short or something in the cruise switch, just imagine the car deciding to go wot on the fwy next to a highway patrol car...15 psi of boost and I'm on the brakes. Going from 65 to over 90 and flying by the cop...how I didn't get stopped I will never know.

Anyhow, the same thing happened to a friend of mine with a base taurus as you, turns out that a misrouted plug wire caught on the throttle when it was opened more than usual, and well same as you experienced.

This has happened to me several times.. Dumb question...Do you have floor mats?? My mat would slide up just enough to catch the pedal and Scare the H*** out of me.

Just a thought.
