HEY guys, I lost my Gen 2 94 MTX last Wed due to an accident. It was the other parties fault.I got rear ended at a set of lights. I owned this car since 96,It was my baby..Anyhow it has been totaled and I'll prob only get 2500 at most for it. I was thinking of buying a 96 or 97 SHO. I've have seen all these cam problems. At this point does everyone think that every SHO made from 96-99 has bad cams? They are selling this 96 SHO for $4800 at a local dealer by me. It has 80k miles. The car itself seem very tight,Good suspension, engine response was very snappy. No weird noise "yet" coming from the engine. Interiors great. Anyhow, Do you think i should by this and get the cams welded. And if so do you know anyone in Mass that does these and for how much. I just would really love to have my next car be a SHO again, but I'm afraid with all of these issues with the cams..I live in Whitman MA (south Shore). Thanks in advance for any thoughts or comments.MattyMac

Sounds like a good deal. Buy it, put a little cash down, finance for 2-3yrs, get the cams welded and use some cash for mods.

Kirk is in MA I believe and he is the daddy when it comes to welding.

Good luck

Yes, Kirk Doucette is in Spencer MA and he is the local V8SHO God around there. I bought my second 97 from him with welded cams. Knows his shit and wont give you a run around.

Yes, definintely buy it! Sounds like a good price to me, just make sure everything is in top-knotch condition.
Kirk is most definitely the V8 SHO God. He (and JT, can't leave him out) welded my cams for me. He difeinitely will not rip you off, plus he is an overall good guy. Good luck buying another SHO, and sorry to hear about your loss.

If they are asking $4,800 I would offer them $4,000 and they will offer back to you and you can see what it is. What I'm thinking is if you get them to $4,300 you got them down the $500 you can put into the cam welds. thumb

I would suggest the above plus going to v8sho.com and printing out the two articles about the lawsuit and have them tucked in your pocket for when they want to haggle. Hand the articles to the sales manager, not the floor geek, and ask again if they don't want to consider letting it fly for 4k OUT THE DOOR!! (don't ask, don't get theory) Then call Kirk and boogie up to Spencer and get her welded and top end cleaned. Be the best money you'll spend, IMHO.
Other than that, I have no opinion.
