i have been on here a while but this is my first ever post and i think i should start with a little background. my first car ever what a red 95 MTX i loved the car to death but like many i had tranny problems and the timing could have not been worse i was a week away form moving 600 miles away from my home town Easthampton MA to Pittsburgh PA, and i had to money or knowledge of cars at the time. so i sold it. i looked and looked for another one but never found one and bout an e30 bmw i hate the bmw. im now looking for a car again and i found a very nice black on black 93 sho ( i will link it) but its an auto and i refuse to have an auto so here comes the question how hard is it to swap out the ATX and put in a MTX i did some searches but never really found what i was looking for, i want to car to run perfect and to run like its a stock MTX so i need to know how much it will cost how involved it would be and what parts i will need, i know how to work on cars at this point but never messed with a FWD tranny only RWD so is it harder or just different or even close to the same? thank you very much for your time and your knowledge it will be very much appreciated.

-Mason

P.S. this the link to the car

A number of members here have done it. The most straight forward bolt on way would be to get your hands on a old MTX engine and tranny so you would have the engine mounts and accessories you would need. You would also need the computer, some wiring as well as the pedals shifter etc.
Basicly you could just bolt all the 3.0L stuff on the engine that is diff on the atx engine.
Oil pan, Y-pipe, manifolds, engine mounts, timing belt tensioner, etc. If you look around for 3.2 swaps most of the info will be there minus the pedals computer and wiring etc.
PS, no hot linking to Craigslist ebay etc. Welcome aboard.
Edit, looks like I hit 5k posts on this one :)

This^^^^.
You more or less have to buy another SHO that has an MTX, as you need the subframe as well. I may be wrong, but the engine wiring harness must follow the engine into the new car, as well as the computer module.
Since you have to look for another SHO anyways, why not just look for a good MTX SHO.
They usually need a clutch and the 60Ks done, but you are only buying one car this way.

Not trying to change you, but I would rethink the dislike for the automatic. Maybe rebuild the automatic in the 93 you like (if it needs it), and you will be done.
I have always had manual SHOs, and they are not sent from heaven by any means.

Look in the car sales section on this forum, and if you get no other replies, send your message to Rubydis, who will advise you with pleasure. There are others on this forum as well who can assist you, as they have done what you are proposing.

Personally, I would not attempt the swap myself, I would look to have it done at a reputable shop, and there is one in Pennsylvania. If you go the shop way - you would not have to supply the parts car as they will know where to get one.

you need to practice your search skills more, grasshopper. there are threads on this site that detail the process of atx->mtx conversion, including one I started.

Buy the black 91 + in Pennsylvania on CL. It's black on black, full leather, and looks in really good shape. Problem solved.

If you buy it, I will be very jealous as I have been wanting to take a road trip to check it out but have decided 3 SHO's right now is enough.
