I finally got my car back from the dealership and I was looking under my hood and inspecting the work done. I found a flat grouding wire on the passenger side rear of the engine bay that isn't hooked to anything. It is attached to the frame but it's not attached to anything on the engine. Can anyone help me find where this wire belongs?

It is a flat wire grounded behind the passengers side hood strut/shock. I can get a pic if it will help.

Thanks guys!

It goes on this stud on the passenger side at the back of the intake manifold. Often, a SHO will not start if this wire is disconnected.

If it's a insulated black flat strap it is for grounding the DIS through the intake manifold mounting stud. If it's a bare copper flat strap with a big eyelet on one end, it's for grounding the hood pad/EMI shield.

I'm a little confused now...

The wire is a flat black wire. It is attached at one end to the frame behind the red anti lock test box. The other end is not attached to anything but has an area so it can be bolted to something else...

It looks like the wire in the illustration above. What is that wire for?

Stand facing the front of the car. Look at the intake. The now left rear of the intake has a mount for a intake support bracket (just like the other three corners). The special part about this side is that there is a special bolt on this side that has threads on both sides of it. You take the ground strap and you put it on the stud and tighten a nut over it.

I looked under the hood and found the spot where this is supposed to go but the bolt is missing. What is that black metal piece attached to the corner of the intake?? I don't have that either. Is this some sort of modification? Can I ground it somewhere else on the intake without doing damage or does it have to go in that spot?

Thanks

Ken, the picture is a totally stock installation. The bolt with the wrench on it is a special fastener with a stud that extends out past the head of the bolt. The wire and bracket fasten to the stud once the bolt is installed in the manifold. IIRC, the black bracket you see is part of the wiring bracket that holds the wiring that runs behind the rear valve cover. Also, IIRC, this same bolt secures one of the four cast aluminum manifold supports that run from the cylinder head up to the manifold. You can kind of see the top of it between the wrench and the manifold. I'm pretty sure on this, but I'm not at home right now so I can't double check. If the special fastener is missing, I think you could use a regular bolt to get the job done.

Ken, you can attach the ground strap under the bolt that secures the 'crossover tank' to the brkt that also attaches to the rear tank. See pic. Its a much shorter path so its better, just route it under the tanks & come up to the bolt. The ground strap is mainly for the DIS! so if your car runs & that is not attached the DIS must have another ground source. I always add a separate ground wire just for the DIS anyway along with another 'mod' we won't get into here! ;)
Ground wire here

Thanks for your help guys. The bolt in the rear was missing, so I routed it under the intake to the rear bolt.

As always... I appreciate all your help!
