call Tony....he keeps rod bearings in stock. maybe he can hook you up. I think its a bad idea to put in used bearings.

Its like turning your underwear inside out.....still dirty.

PS: Call Tony tomorrow....he lives and breathes repairing SHOs all week. Needs a day of rest.

I have to get it fixed ASAP lol. Trust me when I come BACK I will get everything done to the car right, these are just to let it be driven while I'm gone.

I agree with SHOMurph, do not put in used bearings...like posted earlier, the new set with gaskets is $67+shipping. You are only asking for more trouble.

Yes it used to be in the O and R on the gauge when I bought it, with the new radiator and stuff it is below the middle of the gauge...consistently.

Brian is coming over tonight I think and we are going to take my good rod bearings and some of his good rod bearings from his 93, combine them and put those in. It isn't the best option, but I can't wait on an order to come in for new ones...the car has to be driveable when I leave for the Army Tuesday night so someone can drive it every couple of weeks to keep it running. If I leave it with bad bearings, then no one can drive it, which will lead to a dead battery, bad seals, bad tires, and who knows what else.

If i recall correctly the radiator wasnt even a year old. Check the folder if ya want, its not the orignal thats all i remember. Why it would have run warmer with what was in it is beyond me unless they had a different core design or something. The only time it ever got to the o for me was in the middle of august right after i got it last year when i was in austin with my fat sister in the back, my dad in the front with me, all her luggage in the trunk and the a/c on full blast in gridlock traffic on the highway. And it never ever went past that so i know with what it had the car wouldnt have been overheated.

The original owner lived in austin so it got alot of city driving but he also travelled between san antonio and dfw on a regular basis so it got a nice blend of driving and he was in his mid 40s and seemed normal so id assume he drove it fine. I drove it 90% highway going to class and all so i find it hard to believe that rod bearings would be bad at 130k suddenly without any warning whatsoever. My 89 my sis drives has 246k on it now and its still on the original rod bearings ( yes i know i need to change them!) and i always noticed how tight greenbeans motor sounded compared to the 89 so i didnt think anything was a problem. I know he didnt rag on it as the original clutch lasted over 100k. Im wondering if there was something in the pan that got knocked loose when you hit all that stuff and it got sucked onto the oil pump or something blocking flow like Rayjay suggested? The top end of the motor was clean as a whistle but i never took the pan off. Id only assume any motor with 130k on it would have some kind of build up in the pan. I'll quit trying to come up with scenerios, im just curious to see what they look like. One thing i noticed though in one of those pics when it was getting worked on that you posted was the intake was wide open with nothing covering the hole. Could something have gotten in there by chance? Uhmmk im really gonna stop now :p

Do NOT put in used bearings. It would be better to just let the car sit until you can properly fix it. Sure you might have some seals get a little hard but seals are much easier then a motor. If you are worried about the tires get a set of spares or steal wheels with bad tires...

Do you think maybe someone at the body shop had their way with your SHO like those two dudes at the parking garage in Ferris Bueler's Day Off? :omg:

We changed the rod bearings, or we are changing them right now. They are terrible, every signle one shows at least a nickel sized section of copper, top AND bottom.

One of them, cylinder #4 IIRC was so loose because the bearings were completely wore down past the copper past the halfway point of the bearing.

Every single used bearing of Brians, except for 1, showed 0 copper...so I slapped them in...We still have to put the oil pan on and y pipe, and then hopefully no knock.

When I get back, I will do the rod bearings for real...and whatever the **** else.

Well it's not anymore.

You will see the pics, and I was afraid that #4 bearing scored the crank. It did. The new bearing got messed up REAL quick, like within 5 minutes of me driving it. Knock came back, cranks gone. Yay.

Too add insult to injury, the low coolant light came on. When I pull in, I notice a coolant smell. Then I notice a big puddle of it. Then I see a trail of it all the way down the street.

Very sad indeed. :frown:

When everything was good, body damage fixed, we thought things were going good. We just needed to find out what was causing the little toe-in on the rear tire because we striaghtened out the control arm the best the ***** eye could see. Now this problem comes out and is going to cost some money to get the bean going.

This SHO has caused so many problems! :shakehead

$6k and climbing... :frown:

Same thing happened to my 94 before I got it. Spun bearings and worn crank/rods. New bearings put in and within 5 minutes of driving the knock came back. Here she sits, awaiting the UPS man with a good crank and rods/pistons.

Time for a new engine or new internals.
