Had a long day today not particularily eventful though. Went and got the car ended up paying 1k for it but thats fine it does have quite a few new parts. drove it about 45 miles to my school where it sits now to start teardown tomorrow for the cam weld. far from perfect but a great project car for sure! also a good way to use up some of the spare parts i have laying around.

a few shots:

i have alot of parts and plans for it already so stay tuned and let me know what you think! will be asking questions in otehr sections of the forum as well, its got tranny issues, possible coolant leak, and a few other things that need addressin

Well if you paid 1k and it runs and drives and has good tires and is not a total shit box its still a deal. Keep us posted on your progress!

it is not bad there is kinda alot of small things bu ti have collected alot of parts over the years and they will help me out as well. and the cam weld is going to cost me next to nothing so that will help with paying for any costs that may arise due to the trans or whatever else. the previous owner (my dads boss and owner of a NAPA store) has replaced the tires, coils, plugs, front brakes, front wheel bearings, and a few other things. so it has plenty of good parts. a great place to start i think

well i have some good news and some bad news about the SHO...

the good news is that the inside of the engine is extremely clean!

bad news is is i keep finding more issues.
someone started the car to drive it in the shop today and i was standing behind it, well a big old puff of blue smoke came out....
both rear strut mounts are beyond shot you can grab the top of the tire and the whole thing will move in and out over an inch.
the unlock button on the driver door does not work.
trunk lock is siezed.
alot of buttons on the football are sticky and have a hard time working.
the rockers are gone in some places (need to remove rocker covers to see how much is missing...)
and i am sure i am missing a few of my discoveries...

i did get a few things done today before they started working on it though.
swapped out the driver door speaker, swapped out the cup holders, took the back seat out so that they can access the strut mount bolts.tightened shifter, took the headlights home so they can be polished (bulbs were manufactured in 96!). and i cleaned off a ton of buffing compound that was everywhere on the car whoever buffed it did not get any off of any seams or edges of any panels...

a couple pics from the day

JBLtweeter
early build 97 (08/96 i think) has jbl tweeters and a jbl labeled mach rcu

Brokencupholders
quite busted....

Newcupholders

Cleanengine
clean engine! and the cams in the front have not begun to slip at all! they will be welded tomorrow time permitting. our welding instructor is going to set up some mach welds to get all of his settings right. i really hope he knows what he is doing (he is a great welder though so i am pretty confident in good results!!)

not really... last i heard was that the welding was going better and it should be done early this week. looks like i forgot to update you guys on the lovely surprise i found when i put the car up on the lift...

i knew there was rust in front of both back tires but i got a better shot
Shorust5

Shorust4

then i went too the rocker and found this. i though it was just a couple more small holes
Shorust3

until i grabbed the rocker cover and it fell off in my hands...
SHOrust1

Shorust2

i have replacement rockers that i can take off of the 98 wagon that we have as long as they dont look the same. and someone on TSOC is going to put them on for me for the cost of the primer and filler. i already have paint in this color from another car.
