anyone got a good idea where the ballasts should go? i got the kit for xmas and want to install it but i'm not sure where to install the ballast boxes.

anyone got pics of their HID installs in gen 1 or gen 2s and where they put their ballast boxes?

They need to be somewhere that they will get airflow past them otherwise they will get to warm. I assume you just got a bulb and ballast kit not projector lenses? You really should be putting projector housing in to correctly do a retrofit otherwise your pretty much just blinding people in on coming traffic.

edit: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/ , good info there.

Fluted headlamps are horrible with HIDs. The thickness of the lens almost traps the light inside. You would need clear lenses.

They dont make clear lenses. You got clear lens covers though.

You can get clear lens covers from SHOSOURCE.com

dont want HIDs that bad. my wife got them from overhearing me talking about it with a friend that has them on his hyabusa. he told her they sold kits online and one for my car would be easy to get and put in. i disagreed but she got em for me as a suprise xmas gift.

If you want, you can experiment with taking apart the headlamp housings (put in oven at 150-200 for 15-20 minutes to soften the sealing stuff) and sanding the crap out of the inside. This will remove the fluting and significant thickness from the front. Then you could use sealed HID units without too much problem.

what do you mean by sealed HID unit? like a stock projector unit from like a BMW or S2000?

i guess i could go to the junk yard and buy a second set of headlamp buckets, and try and take the fluting off the lens. i'm assuming taking the reflective stuff off the bucket itself would be a good plan too right?

Hid

To be honest I have 10,000k HID's in my 93 and I have them aimed a little lower, and when I followed my old lady one night she said they were fine. Even when aimed lower they are still alot better than my stock head lights. And if anyone were to Bi$@# it would have been her let me tell ya. So if that helps even a little in your decision to keep them thats my 2 cents.:munch:

Much respect for not putting them in; I hate having jag-offs with HID bulbs shoved into the housings behind me in traffic.

So what are you trying to say? I have done all I can do ensure I'm not blinding anyone and so far it's fine. Considering my car won't leave the garage until this summer and not too much night driving anyway. I guess I would compare mine to the new Cadillac they have "about" the same amount of light output and same color. And to be honest I think the cadillac's are brighter and with the projecter's it's almost like they have their's on high beams all the time.

girls girls, you're all pretty.

i decided that i'd install them without hard mounting the ballasts at dusk tonight. wait till its dark and test em out. as long as I can aim the beams south enough and to the right enough that no one in the oncoming lane or in front of me is gonna get their eye balls burned out with a pretty baby blue (8000K) then maybe MAYBE i'll leave em in. if i end up liking the result, and it doesn't seem to be bothering oncoming traffic i may upgrade the fog lamps as well.

i'm still gonna go to the junk yard and pick up another set of headlamp buckets and tail lights. i'm tempted to see how hard it would be to tear a set of the SHO source tail lights apart and make em fit into a set of Gen 1 tails. my tail lights are very dim at night. i'd rather have bright tails.

Mine are aimed a little lower and you can't really tell, and it's not blinding the oncoming traffic so I think you will be fine. And you will like them when you see what your SHO looks like with them installed.:dribble:

i like the way it looks now at night with the fogs turned off... like a cop... i come flying up on my friends all the time and then follow em about 10 feet of their bumpers and lane change behind them the do a fly by. they get ******.

HIDs will definitely take that away from me...

put em in... they're effing bright, still gotta aim em down. not going anywhere tonight. but i like the fact that its so plug and play. it only took me the time it takes to get the battery and air box disconnected.

heres a comparison picture at dusk:

Yeah they are very easy to install, My computer at work doesn't download all the pics so I will have to take a look when I get home. But I'm sure they look good.:dribble:
