My SHO '94 MTX sat for some time -- and the steering wheel horn pad/air back has become sticky to the touch... has anyone else had this, and what has been done to remove the stickyness - I've tried goo-gone and armorall.. but still sticky.. it's weird...

thanks!!

Well word of advice don't clean it with acetone lol. Sure it'll take the goo off, but it's a different color underneath and it'll ruin the cruise control buttons. Trust me I did it lol

That's what happens when you do acetone... Try maybe mineral spirits?

well the horn pad doesn't look that bad and is ready to prime and paint hehe.. but the cruise buttons is another story.

GreenTaurusSHO,
I also believe that the material is decomposing, at the end is just plastic/rubber and with the heat from so many years it could be reacting this way.

You might get away by light-sanding it until the goey material is gone (if) and then repaint it.
