When I got my 89 it was grey instead of black... 
.so first thing I did was apply some compound that had fine sandpaper grit in it...dont' remember what its called...it was a meguires product...after I finished with that I used the hard turtle wax...and used my buffer to buff it out...
the rust even shinned when I was done... thumbs_u
