ok, found a sho, another 93 atx with 113000 miles on it. the seats kindof look like shit, they are not ripped, but are tan leather and you can really notice all the cracks and stuff. it is pretty noticeable in both the front seats. Otherwise, it looks good, newer tires, wants 2000 bucks for it. i know the tranny will go out sometime, but ****, so i would have 4500 into an sho with a new tranny....how does this deal sound?

How about replacement leather from www.katzkin.com or www.leatherseats.com.

Both places have templates already for the Gen2 SHO seats and can have them made for you very easily.

The entire car replacement is typically $700-800, including front seats, rear seat and door inserts, but I don't know what they'd charge for just the front seat pieces.

Good luck.

2k sounds good if all the mechanicals are in order. I'm sure you'll spend a few hundred on maintenance items in the first year. As long as you are aware of tranny issues the price isn't bad.

Also has it had a 60K service in the past 113K miles ? If the answer is no, it may be possible for lobe wear on the cams. Maybe enough to warrent replacing them to the tune of $600 dollars.

If you want a ATX, then this doesn't sound too bad. Work the price lower. Not having the 60K service would give you some leverage. How is the suspension and brakes ? Those parts add up quickly as well. But if you are just wanting a SHO. Wait till you find a good MTX. It will have a better tranny and will be faster than an ATX (unless your Kaotic and have an SC on your motor :) )

Your welcome. Coming from someone who has owned one of these cars, along with just about every other Ford performance car made and spent well over $3000.00 to fix the P.O.S. ATX that these things are saddled with (And there are guys on this group who have spent MORE) I think it's pretty good advice!

Coming from someone who has owned one of these cars,
I have owned two of the ATX's and I haven't had a problem. The current one I am driving has 100K and the other one had 167K on the Auto Trans ($OLD). I think it depends on the driver and how well the previous owners took care of the car. If a younger male is selling the car to you, I would beware. They probably have raced it plenty of times and the car is just now starting to suffer from the abuse. On the other hand, if sdpatt was the former owner, I would say buy it right now.

$2000 is a good price, sounds fishy, usually people sell these cars to get rid of the problems. Bottom line: Don't buy the car unless you have the money to pay for the upkeep.

But, on the other end of the spectrum, I bought my SHO with 65,000 on the clock. Formerly owned by and adult, most of the miles put on the Southern California freeways. At 95,000 the trans died. Everything looked perfect inside except the front pump input shaft sheared off all the splines in the front pump. Not wanting to do anything half assed, did a complete overhaul to the tune of $2200.00. 1.5 years later, it broke the 1-2 accumulator spring. Another 9.1 hour flat rate charge just to R and R the trans.
My car does not get driven hard, When I want to go fast, I'll crank up my '65 GT-350. If you manage to get one of these cars with a good trans, great, I am real happy for you. On the other hand, I really wish that I had waited and bought a MTX car.

After having my 92 MTX towed for the second time in two weeks, I thought I'd chime in . I purchased this moneypit 3 years ago having no idea just how maintenance intensive it was. It had 86k on the clock, straight body, strong engine.....and an unknown history...I bought it off a lot. Before purchasing her, I banged around on the internet, tying to get a feel for her temperment. I saw lots of devoted owners, talking about specific problems....I figured, hey, this is a performance vehicle, $hit happens.
I had no idea I'd be encountering soooo many of these problems. I've got 120K on the clock now, and couldn't bear to add up all the reciepts for parts that I've spent...and that's just to keep it on the road...I haven't even been able to do any performance modifications.....who's got the $$$. Investment wise, these things suck....but they sure do move (when they're running).
Sorry for the **** and moaning...I just finished replacing the clutch cable. I think the blood flow is coming back to my hands now.

If it weren't for all the helpfull information from you guys on this forum, I'd have sold "Tow-Baby" long ago

Time for a cold one.
