So as we all know things rarely go according to plan. I got going working on building a new intake with an 80mm maf at about midnight, I had intended to use a nice piece of plastic as a ****** for the maf, build a bracket to mount it all, drill a hole for the IAT sensor and so on and so forth, but then 1:30 am rolled around. Since I had to get up early and wouldn't have a chance to work on the car all week, this was created.

Starting from the throttle body, the black piece is a trimmed down Mustang GT intake, then we have the MAF, then a piece of hardwood flooring followed by some 3" PCV and finally a cone air filter from Pick N Pull. To connect it without an adapter, I put a bunch of spade connectors on each wire and trimmed them to size (I cut and soldered it earlier today to make the connection more neat and reliable)

Then the IAT is zip tied to the side of the filter because I didn't leave enough room on the pipe to drill a hole for it. After that the entire thing is ziptied to hold it into place. As awful as this is it's working quite well so far.

The reason I did this was to get the 80mm maf installed and dialed in before I turbo it. That should leave me only having to mess with the maf curve after boost kicks in. Thankfully all of this will be put together much better once I start building the turbo intake.

i kind of feel like this would have been one of those projects where you go ahead and dial it back to stock until you have time to do it right instead of cobbling things together.

i could see if this was temporary to limp the car home from somewhere but i am seeing no logical reason for doing such a ****** job just to put an 80mm MAF in for a turbo that doesn't exist yet.

was there a reason to do it other than you just feeling like it?

edit:

and then i saw your signature with your list of 'mods' your HID bulbs installed in housings with fluted 'extra glare' housings, and the welded on turn down.

i get it now.

What are those two black things? And where does that speaker wire lead to?

Yes actually, my goal was to get an accurate curve for it, so once I got the turbo on I would only have to tune a small portion of the curve rather than the whole thing. I have hardly any free time so on big projects like this I have to break them down into little pieces and do them step by step. I had originally intended to go back to the stock maf once I had the curve worked out, but the ghetto connector I made was messing up the maf signal so I had to solder it and now I'm stuck with it.

Those are horns! I added 4 extra ones because people at my school drive like meth heads on acid in the parking lot, and apparently the stock ones by themselves were to quiet to phase them. That's not a problem anymore :) Then the speaker wire goes to my PA speaker

I would think your...adapter...would affect the accuracy of the maf curve. Note how the stock maf has a screen in it, to straighten the air before it hits the sensor? You've got nothing like that, just a filter and some plywood it looks like.

depending on if you're doing a blow through or draw through MAF you're going to have to spend time tweaking the curve anyway and you'll probably end up touching more than you plan on.

I'm not trying to be a dick but if this is how you're going to treat your turbo build you'll likely grenade the motor. Wait until your're out of school and have a stable job before boosting a SHO. It isn't a cheap endeavor to do properly.
