I never had heard of this but my wife brought the Sho to our dealership this morning to check a dimmed bulb..we're still in the 12k mile bumper to bumper. She also mentioned there was a weird noise coming from the car going in reverse.
Apparently that led them to REPLACING all 4 rotors and pads and said there had been a recall on them.
Just thought I'd share...I have no idea if this only applies in the 12k mile warranty and if it only applies to 2010 models. I mean if it's a recall then the 12k mile warranty shouldn't matter. Worth looking into though. A nice free set of brakes is always nice!

Don't know how much rooting around you do on the board, but if you check the TSB's you'll find the brake TSB listed. To the best of my knowledge (questionable) there was no recall on the brakes. Recall and TSB are entirely different animals. If you had an issue, which you had, it was covered on the TSB. If you bought your SHO new, you should have a 36 month/36k mile warranty.

Both TSB's related to this issue. There are no reported 'FSA' Field Service Actions (recalls) related to this for the 2010 or 11.

TSB 11-10-29:

Some 2011-2012 MKS, Flex, Taurus, MKT and Explorer vehicles built between 8/10/2010 and 08/02/2011 and some 2011-2012 Taurus SHO not equipped with the Performance Package built between 8/10/2010 and 8/02/2011 may exhibit a low frequency squeal from the front brakes.

PERFORMANCE PACKAGE SHO'S ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS PROCEDURE.

TSB 11-5-15:

Some 2009-2011 MKS, Flex, 2010-2011 Taurus, MKT vehicles built on or before 7/28/2010 and some 2010-2011 Taurus SHO not equipped with the Performance Package built on or before 8/10/2010 may exhibit intermittent grunt or grinding noise from the front brakes.

PERFORMANCE PACKAGE SHO'S ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS PROCEDURE.

I've had some intermittent grinding noise in the brakes recently. I've also had it in for service not long ago, and the inspection they did showed good life left in the brake pads at the time. At 25,494 miles, I hope that the dealership will find the TSB based on my explanation of the noise that's consistent with the TSB. I have an appointment next week to get it checked on.
Previous experience with my dealership has been very good; they did the transmission TSB based on my reporting only, despite the fact that they could not duplicate the problem. Since having the transmission TSB done, has been no recurrence of the problem.

My 2010 SHO appointment to check the brakes was today. The service advisor found the TSB, based on my complaint about the noise and told me that I will get all 4 rotors and new pads all around for no charge. Parts were not in stock and have to be ordered from Detroit, but the mechanic said that the noise is not related to any actual contact on the main part of the rotor, and that safety and stopping performance are not affected.

Nice! Nothing like a whole new set of discs and pads for free...especially on this car. I can imagine paying for that would be pretty pricey.
