Get foglights to work w/ parking lights w/o headlights

I hear it is really simple, but how do you do it...i want to be able to turn my foglights on when i only have my parking lights on, but i want them also to be on when the headlights are on normally ??? ANyone know how ??/

uhh, those directions are confusing. In #5 it says "Now the 1st. wire coming from inside the dash (power from parking/dash lamps) needs to be stripped and spliced to attach to the 1st wire still attached to the fog light button and also to the 3rd wire still attached to the fog light button (originally power from head lamps)."

Where did the other "1st" wire come from? or is it easier to understand when you have the thing out.

It's easier when you're looking at the switch, the wires are easy to tell apart.

The wires are attached to the switch in a vertical row...the "first wire" is on the top, and so on...the hardest part was prying the switch out...oh BTW remember to tape the hot wire after you cut it! Hope this helps...

I just took off the top of the dash enough to reach behind and push it out...very easy...and you don't run the risk of scaring up the panel. Two Torx bits above the gauge cluster. If dash won't push back on, make sure you have everythign aligned.

I reccomend using butt splices as opposed to wire nuts or just twist n' tape. Make sure everything is insulated well, you don't want to short or ground anything.

Just get a relay for $3.00 and tap into the parking light wires. Cut the fog light wires going to the switch. It will be automatic and take the load off the headlight and MFS switches.

You can buy them anywhere you can get fog lights. Usually about $3.00. There are 4 pin and 5 pin. You only need the 4 pin 30 amp relay.

Two pins are the coil on the relay. One of these pins you tap/connect to the parking light switched hot wire. The other coil pin is connected to ground. When the parking lights are on the coil will be enegized.

The other pins are the switched power circuit, switched when the coil is energized and pulls in a contact. You connect one side of these contacts to 12V with a fused lead. The other pin goes to the hot wire on the fog lights.

30 amps? isnt that an over ****? won't a 1 amp fuse be sufficient along with a lower amp rating relay?

The 30 amp relays are the common size. You will need a 10-15 amp fuse to run two 55 watt fog lights.

What you're basically telling these guys is to eliminate the fog light switch. I would go crazy having a dead switch just being there for no good reason. I used ONE wire tap and a wire cap. Took me literally 3 minutes. It's so easy, everytime I meet a new SHO owner I offer to do it for free if they haven't already done it. Oh, and about "scarring" up the dash, I use electrical tape wrapped around the tip of a flathead screwdriver. The factory fog light relay is right next to the cruise control relay and is plenty stout enough to handle 2 55watt fog lights.

Just be advised that the 89 does not have a fog light relay. All fog light current gets pulled through the fog light switch. The relay was added in '90 models.

FWIW, there is no relay for the cruise control.... Not sure what relay you are actually seeing.

I was answering the original post that said.....

But you can feed the power circuit to the add-on relay from the fog light switch to have it operative too so that you could **** the fog lights, or to have no load on the fog light switch you can run the add-on relay coil power wire through the fog light switch.

I'm actually seeing the cruise control relay. It's adjacent to the fog lamp relay underneath the dash where your right knee would be. I know first hand b/c I had to replace it. I don't want to turn this into a cruise control post, but, the symptoms are when the cruise control goes to accelerate the car it will shut down. R&R that relay and it should remedy the problem.

I hadn't planned on it either, but there is no relay for the cruise control on the 89-95 taurus, including the SHO per the factory EVTMs. Yes, I looked.
