Was it an option for the antenna to go up and down when the radio is on or off?

i think you may have a broken antenna mast, it is very common for the gen2.there is no switch for the gen2, it is automatically drawn up and down when the power on the radio is turned on.listen to the front passenger side wheel well the next time you turn your car off with the radio,if you hear a humming sound, then you probably only need the mast.

Like it was mentioned, If your motor still works, all you have to do is buy a replacement mast. These are all over ebay. Also on ebay are aftermarket power antennas, You could try that out aswell. My mast was broken in half but the motor still ran, I replaced the mast and it works like a charm now.

Heres the mast: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...46093QQitemZ4614755388QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Heres the aftermarket antenna: http://cgi.ebay.com/Ford-Power-Ante...5866672041QQcategoryZ1498QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Mine won't go down all the way. It leaves the last section up and when it's up it wobbles back and forth. Looks like junk. How hard are they to replace?

They are very easy to replace. However, a new mast from Ford is around $50. You simply unscrew the outer ring - have the stereo 'eject' the old mast. Sometimes it leaves a broken portion inside the motor. If that is the case you must remove the motor and take out the broken piece. After that you just feed the plastic line down while the stereo is sucking it in and it should feed itself into the motor.

91grnplus - Is your antenna sectional - as if it could go up and down, or is it one piece? It is possible that yours has been replaced with a stationary one. Or, you could check to see if the motor has been unplugged. I unplugged mine - it worked fine but just got annoying. If you pull down the glove box there is a gray connector to the right of the glove box, that is the power for the motor. Also, if you have an aftermarked stereo that might affect the operation.

I've been using a $15 Metra mast that I got off the rack at PepBoys and it's been working great for over 2 years now. It's supposed to be for a corvette but is works find in our Taurus. The benefit is that the corvette mast seems to be in stock at most parts stores.

Metra also makes a replacement mast for the Taurus, and if you can find it, all the more better. But they seem to be harder to come by unless you order them online.
