Can someone please explain to me in romper room terms, how to check for spark? Also, i have seen the acronyms, PIP, ECT, ACT and were wondering what do they mean, do, and how they fall into the scheme of things. Lastly, I have not yet been able to find any connector wire hanging anywhere near the EEC connection on the firewall. There is a grey connector in the EEC housing and was wondering if that might be the connector i am looking for? Thanks for any/all help

You should be able to find the connector near the right front strut tower. This will be the left side of the car if you're facing it from the front. The connector is pretty large and it is grey. It's right near the grounding strap for the motor.

As far as checking for spark, a good way to test it is to go out and buy a spark tester. They are under $5 and are simple to use. You simply plug the wire into the tester, clamp the tester to a grounded surface (engine block) and then crank it over and watch for spark. If you want to use a regular spark plug, simply set the plug on the block so that the threads are touching ground. Crank the engine over and it should spark.

The eec test connector should have EEC on the module itself. There are 2 spout connectors one near the rear firewall by the eec with a gray plug in it. That isn't what you want. There should be 3 or 4 female plug contacts on the test connector.

I found the eec test "box". Its black and has some connectors in it. One of the connectors is grey inside the test box, and that is the one i thought might be the "hanging" wire that i have heard about. I cannot find any other wire hanging loose by itself. Do some of the cars come with all connectors configured into the test box itself? i really need to check codes, but don't want to short something by sticking a jumper wire where it should not go.

The newer cars had a plastic piece that the EEC and STI connectors plugged into to keep them from hanging on the exhaust manifold and melting. The older models such as my 89 just left them hang from the wiring harness near the cam sensor.

The SPOUT connector in all SHOs is also right behind the cam sensor. There is another identical jumper located on the harness below the coil pack, but it is not the SPOUT connector and has nothing to do with SPOUT. It is shown here lying on the cam sensor housing:

Ain't that a butt-ugly fuel line repair? It's been redone since the picture was taken...

Mike, you have located the correct connector and the gray one is used when you jumper the connection.

Mike, here is a great site for the EEC testing and code descriptions -> Dail Design.

Thanks Scott, the main problem i was having was not being sure where the test lead was. I took the 80mm Pro-m MAF off my 93 ATX and put it on the 94 MTX since i was selling it. This cause the CEL to "ignite" and soot deposits inside my tailpipe. The car runs great other than that. I thought it might be causing the 94 to run rich. Dunno, just a thumbs and elbows thought. Thanks
This weekend i'm swapping the struts/springs, yeh...Too bad the pipes don't interchange.
