I have a 93' ATX and I badly want an MTX. Found a wrecked 89 with 77k on the engine and tranny. How hard would the swap be and what exactly do I need from the 89'. Thanls

Well, what would be ideal would be to use the subframe and tranny from the 89 and the cams out of the 89 and put those into you 3.2 heads. Then just bolt the 3.2 to the mtx tranny and there you go. The computer from the 89 is used, as is the A/C lines. If you have a large supplement of tools, and a cherry picker then it could be doable. It is a time consuming project though. Took my buddy about a month and a half to chase down all his gremlins and get it running right. There are a couple guys on here who have done the ATX to MTX swap. rktmn is one of their names.

Take the engine, tranny, and subframe from the 89 and plug it in, as an assembly, to the 93. This won't be that tough to do.

Some other things, though, that will be more work:

If you want ABS you'll need to find halfshafts from a later MTX SHO.
You'll need the pedal assembly and clutch cable from the 89.
You'll need a shifter, I recommend getting a rod shifter from somewhere.
You'll need the exhaust from the 89 if it had a rod shifter, if it didn't, you'll need to get a rod-shifter compatible exhaust.
You'll need to take the computer from the 89 with the engine and tranny (no biggie) and swap it into the 93.

And the worst one: You'll need to replumb the a/c. On the ATX the accumulator is on the firewall and it'll be in the way there with the 3.0 engine. On the MTX cars the accumulator is in front, just in front of the alternator and a/c compressor.

None of these things are that hard to do, just VERY time consuming. A 3.2L use with and ATX is the same exact block as an MTX. It already has all of the necessary holes for an MTX conversion.

Shoaz: why would he need halshafts? Why not just new knuckle/spindle assemblies with wheel speed sensors? Are there magnets IN the halfshafts?

The knuckles on the 93 will have the sensors for the ABS, but they rely on the timing wheel on the half-shaft (the gear lookin' thingie). If the 89 half-shafts don't have that (unlikely if the car didn't have ABS), then the ABS sensors won't have anything to sense, hence, needs new half-shafts for the ABS to work.

If the timing teeth are miraculously already on the 89 half-shafts, then no need to change.
