Does anyone have experience with replacing the front bumper on a gen1?

The bumper cover was ripped and I've repaired it, but the bumper (under the cover) fell to pieces when I removed it.

I'm looking at buying a gen1 taurus bumper new from shermanparts.com (445-87)

86 91 sherman

There is no hole in the bumper for the corner lights.

If anyone has used this type of bumper before, how was it? How did you install corner lights?

It should be a normal taurus part but I am not sure for the gen 1. Personally I would get it from a U Pull It.... it would be much cheaper and no one will ever know whether it's new or used!

...this part was $65 BRAND NEW. No shipping. I picked it up at lunch.

Keystone was over $300 for the same NON-corner-light-hole bumper.

If you have experience with installing the corner lights into a bumper that has no provisions for corner lights, I'd love to hear about it.

hmm.....Tom how much does the non-sho bumper come up on the corner lights? I think you might need to do some trimming on the bumper to make it fit?

Bubba, et al.,

I have answered my own question.

The Gen1 Taurus SHO uses a STANDARD taurus plastic bumper, covered by a rubber SHO bumper cover.

This is not the same as a gen2. The gen2 (all models) uses a Taurus hard plastic bumper "bar", covered by either a SHO (sable compatible) bumper cover, or a Taurus GL/LX, etc.. cover.

The gen1 replacement (non-sho) bumper that I just bought from www.shermanparts.com (A SE Michigan company) is 100% compatible* with the SHO Bumper Cover. It was extremely affordable. I highly recommend checking out their site. If you have a saggy or rattling front bumper, fenders (sable for gen2) and all kinds of crash parts, look em up. It sure beats TRYING to pull a 20 year old plasic bumper off a junk yard car, just to find it's cracked...which you will...Sorry, no deck lids, door skins, or 1/4 panels are available.

*You will have to trim the bottom edge of the Taurus plastic bumper in order to mount the fog lights. The bumper does not have a hole for the corner lights, but the tabs are there for attaching the corner lamp housings. It looks like I might have to drill holes in the bottom of the new bumper in order to attach it with x-mas tree fasteners.
