Hello,
I just bought a beautiful 92 SHO that needs an ignition switch due to the previous owner breaking the key off in the switch. I was wondering if a gen 1 switch will work on a gen 2? Will it mount and wire up the same. My uncle has a gen 1 taurus station wagon parts car that I can get the switch from. Thats the reason I ask. Also will the rear quarter glass work from a gen 1? Thanks alot in advance.

ok, i just read over your post again and i think we may have our wires crossed....

do you mean the ignition switch or the ignition lock cylinder?

the lock cylinder is separate from the actual ignition switch....

the lock cylinder is where you put your key, and the ignition switch is that a little deeper into the column and actually switches power on and off... all the lock cylinder does is handle the mechanical movement of the ignition switch

i probably just confused you....

if nothing is wrong short of your key being broken off in the lock... you need a lock cylinder...

lock cylinders may be the same (i don't know) but the actual ignition switch changed in 1990

I guess I need a lock cylinder. I was going to replace the whole thing, but from what I can understand of what you said I can just replace the mechanical part you call the lock cylinder. I didn't know that you could replace just the part the key goes in. I know nothing about stuff like this, especially the SHO. I usually work on engines. Thanks alot for your help. If there is any other info you can add, please do.

I just replaced my ignition lock cylinder on my '93 this spring. With me doing the replacing total cost was $20 and that was with the locksmith keying the new cylinder to my old key.

You need to have the ignition cylinder in the run position. Then there is a small hole directly below the cylinder in the steering column. Push up in the hole, release and then pull the cylinder out. Because the key is broke you may have to remove the shroud over the column.
