My Gen.III occasionally makes a hum/wallow noise. I took the driver side rear wheel off and noticed one slider pin was compressed maybe a 1/4 inch more than the other eek! HAs this ever happened to anyone before? The boots are not torn. If I turn the wheel by hand, there is some resistance... the other side has some resistance too... maybe not quite as much though.
DO I just need to inspect and regrease the slider pins? Can I just remove the slider pins upon removing the wheel... or do I need to remove the caliper assembly to do it properly?

Don't the slider pins hold the caliper on?

I would remove them and inspect/regrease them, and reinstall them.
FWIW. my '97 did that for 6 months to a year... even after I did the brakes. shrug

yeah, I reckon you're right. But do I need to full with pulling the assembly off, or can I simply loosen the slider pins, pull them out, regrease them, and tighten them back up... without removing or doing anything else?

Pull the slider pin out. It more than likely is dry, dirty and maybe rusty. Spray the pin and the hole with brake cleaner, use a small brush if you can find one to clean out the hole. Then regrease with disc brake grease.

I have found this is a good thing to do annually. Especially the rear brakes.
