well the rumor is that the 2012 SHO will downside to the EUCD platform. It'd make sense, the EUCD is the successor to the P2/D3 volvo platform (at least for Volvo) and decreasing the number of platforms can't hurt streamlining stuff, especially if the 2012/2013 Fusion is going to that platform. Losing a few hundred pounds would put 0-60 down under 5 flat, increase gas mileage a smidge, and help with the complaints about braking and handling. That'd be nice :)

They are not going to switch the entire platform of a car just 2 years after what is almost a brand new car already. That would make no sense because you would have to re-engineer the car from scratch. Ford does not have the time, money or workforce to do this.

That is right on the money. What I think we can expect is a change up kinda like the Gen 1 to the Gen 2 transition. A smooth, subtle upgrade. A few cosmetics on the outside, a few on the inside. It won't go from like the Gen 1 to the Gen 3 in just a couple of years. Like Typhoon said, money is a major obstacle when it comes to complete model year changes. Give it a minimum of 4-5 years before the 2010 platform changes drastically.

I didn't say they were, i said the rumor is. It makes sense to me since most of their vehicles are moving to that platform, maybe not to do it in 2 years but I would bet money the next redesign goes to the EUCD since the Fusion is too.

According to Ford the Taurus is the replacement for the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis so I wouldn't count on it shrinking in size at all. Those are some "'big shoes" to fill.

I'd expect even less change than Gen 1 to Gen 2. Usually what manufacturers do is tweak the facias for the third or fourth year, then redo the sheetmetal after the fifth or sixth year.

2012 could mean model year or calendar year. If the latter, a refreshed 2013 MY SHO seems about right.
