gen 3 suspension on gen 2?

I was wondering if I can make gen 3 SLO suspension work on a 94 SHO. at least the rear suspension. My 94 the struts and springs are shot, and there is a 99 sable at the local yard with 13k on it that was hit. I was wondering if the suspension would work for now while I try to make up my mind on what suspension to run.

also, doesn't the 99+ sables have the upgraded brake calipers?

that '99 will have the same 10.9s up front and solid 10.2s in back. All calipers and brackets are the same. The sables started having 11.6s in '00 while the Tauruses came with 11.6s starting in '01.

I thought the Gen II SLO/SHO, and Gen III/IV SLO's rear suspension set-up was interchangable? At least from 94-05, PN's for rear struts/strut mounts are the same. Also the rear disk set-up on all taurii were the same from 94-05 with the exception of the Gen II SHO? Gen II SHO just came with a "better?" strut, and stiffer spring from the factory.

I was thinking the same.....I imagine the car would handle like ass, but for a quick fix, I see no reason why it wouldn't work. basic suspension geometry seems the same, and all the mounting points are the same....I guess the easiest way to tell would be to do some junkyard parts swapping to see if they'd fit.

Only real problem I can see is rear end squat on hard launches...

Piston extension

I put the gen 2 Koni inserts into gen 3 strut bodies. At least one difference is the fully extended length of the pistons. On the fronts the gen 2 extension is around 1.5 inches longer than the gen 3. [This assumes the inserts are the same length as stock gen 2 struts ]

I have seen GEN3 suspension on a GEN2 SHO. I would think that you would have to spend some quality time with the alignment rack to get it working.

Sounds like a lot of messing around to me.

tim...the ass end already sags like no other, its so bad it will spin the tires all though 1st gear, and every bump sends the rear all over the road. I am just not sure exactly what I want to do with the suspension at this very moment. and with a suspension with 13k on it...it will give me a lil time before I have to make a decision.

I still need to fix the damn sunroof though...I pulled the line off the red one, tried to put it in place...and the damn thing doesn't go down all the way, so I think the old tube was broken off inside the A-pillar. thats my next task....considering I alreay had to shove the dash back together from where you tore it apart tim, lol.

and thanks mandy for the nice words...now to blow the tranny so I can shove a 5 speed in place......MAYBE.

I could be wrong but I would just make sure all of the geometery matches up.

Do you really want to take a chance on 7 year old struts that likely haven't moved in 6 years, even if they only have 13K on them? I wouldn't.

Trust me...the 94's suspension is SHOT....all 4 springs cut, left front broken, struts are factory 155,*** mile OEM units. Just about anything would be an improvement over what's on that car...
