Hi Folks,

I'm seeking a few items. The first two are actual buys / physical items I'm looking for. I have a
Gen 3 / 1999
Ford Taurus Wagon

I'm seeking a replacement faceplate to use an aftermarket stereo that has the EATC / electronic temp control
lower half. I'm hoping to find one in decent condition, but it doesn't have to be perfect. I have checked the junk yards and online (like Row52). I've checked other forums and CL, FB, etc.

If you've got one, what are you looking for including shipping to 06457?

I'm looking for a set of IN CHANNEL vent visors, prefer smoke (dark, med, light in order of preference), for a WAGON (I know, this is more for SHOs but figure someone might have a set).

If you've got one, what are you looking for including shipping to 06457?

I'll post the other stuff I'm seeking (headlight modification ideas, scan/template for custom gauge faces) in another post.

Thanks,
Mark

I have 4 "footballs" from '96 shos. Is it that you just want the faceplate from
one of those? I'd sell an entire unit for $30 shipped.
thanks,
dan

Do you have an example of what you are looking for? I have not seen a functioning EATC oval climate control function correctly with an aftermarket stereo installed in the face of the oem unit. I have done one, and seen a few aftermarket systems mounted separately and wired to bypass the oem stereo that is electronically integrated with the auto climate control.

Thanks for replying so quickly to you both. I guess then I need to ask a tech question, and realize this is a WTB forum. I'm seeking just the faceplate / football, not the electronic climate controls nor the radio. I don't have an image of it but it was made, I believe, by FoMoCo and Metra, maybe also by Scosche a while back. I'm looking for this but for a Gen3 - the football shape. I believe the available ones were also only available with a single DIN opening.

Luigisho - I've seen a bunch where people try to cut stuff and it doesn't work, but I've seen aftermarket stereos with the EATC. My 96 had one from it's previous owner, but I sold it with the car of course.

Dan - are these, except in the oval shape, what you have?

Let me play around tomorrow with one of these gen3 units and see if the
faceplate separates easily and is the football shape version of the picture
you posted.

I cant find a torx small enough to remove the circuit board from the
faceplate but I think its moot...this faceplate does not have two large
rectangular openings. only openings are for the buttons and the
cassette entry area. So I dont think its what you're looking for.

I'm not looking for one that has the two openings, but I also am not looking for one that has the cassette slot. The one that I'm looking for would look something like this. I'm guessing you have the footballs from the factory SHOs. I did this in Photoshop.Single din

That's the first I've ever seen come like that. Were all of these in a regular Taurus sedan/wagon? Never seen one in a SHO car. I would have loved a functioning option like that.

It looks like the only kit that is still available is the one for cars without EATC. Metra part #99-5715

I know at one point in time either Metra or Scosche made the dash kit with the EATC controls.
You may be able to still find it. A quick search only turned up the part that I posted above.

The radio and EATC in the SHO was the same as the radio and EATC in the non SHO Bulls.

The only one that's still being made, as you noted, is the Metra unit for the 3 rotary dial heating. That's why I'm looking here for them.

I've not found one. I've called Ford and Scosche, and talked to a rep who emailed me back from Metra. No one still makes the adapter for the car. I've checked for NOS from a few dozen radio installer shops (I went to Scosche and Metra and called their dealers). I checked at a Ford dealer (they can check the inventory of all other dealers). I've contacted at least 2 dozen junk yards. I've looked at ebay and Amazon and FB market place, and looked for people who were parting out SHOs. I've checked the SHO specific suppliers.

At this point I'm thinking I might buy the one for the 3 dial and then cut both that one and the EATC one, run a thin line of epoxy and or filler, and paint it. I've got really good Kenwoods in my doors and my hatch, attached to (I think) 280 watt amp, plus a custom sub box that replaced the 3rd row seat, attached to 1000 watt amp, a 3.5" direct line and a bluetooth adapter. But I still listen to the radio and I don't want to put it in the glove box or under the dash. So, time to consider swapping the OEM radio.

I don't believe there ever was an option for the radio with automatic EATC. Every one I've ever seen was a home made unit. You will have to take a factory unit and modify the faceplate. There are a couple of guys on Facebook that I could point you to if you are on there.

What sucks is metra makes a ton of kits for all types of new cars with integrated radio and climate controls.

Metra and Ford both made a replacement faceplate to use an aftermarket head unit, but both are long out of production. I'll gladly take some referrals.

There was an aftermarket faceplate that was used with manual climate controls. There never was an option for the automatic EATC. The auto EATC is integrated into the radio and cannot be separated.

100% agree. I searched high and low for a long time. Only came across 1 offs like above and babysho did some nice work on the regular taurus forum back in the day. I forget the rest of the owners but I could never pull it off with the limited time I had and ended up putting one in the storage pocket.
A few people come around from time to time asking for a solution they swear was out there, but I've had my eyes open for a plug and play solution and never came across one in almost 20yrs. And I wanted one bad when I had my v8 car. One of the reasons I never picked up another one.

Now with todays 3D printing technology I bet someone could come up with a solution that looks better than just
putting vinyl over the old radio buttons. Not that it looks terrible.

So did the person you spoke with at Metra tell you what the part number was for the kit with the EATC?
