gears grinding

Well i was pulling out of Advance Auto Parts today after checking out their selection of performance parts. As i pulled out i hear something from my tranny that sounds like someone just ripped a piece of paper. It was a very disturbing sound. After it happened it seemed to catch on then shift. Anybody have any suggestions on what to do?
