My SHO made 391/470 with just a drop in K&N filter, plugs, and E30 tune only. Since then I have added the intercooler and DP's and I am on a really hot AJPTurbo E30 tune. Once it gets a bit cooler here in PHX I will throw her on the rollers again and we will see she does.

Matt just said he turns boost down actually! So now I am really at a loss how the E30 claims to be so much better than the AO tune. Matt told me the AO tune will support up to 95 octane - so I already mix about 2+ gallons of E85 with 93..... will I see better gains by going full E30?

Fuel pressure (or lack thereof) is what I'm worried about on full e30...

With more timing, you can make more power without higher boost.

Can you address my other question I asked please? I don't want to spend another $50 or whatever to switch to your E30 if I don't need to. As I said I run the AO tune on 93 with 2+ gallons of E85 now. What will switching to E30 do for me? THANKS!

It will give you the ability to make more hp and tq.

LOL! Smart butt! :bonk: But if boost is turned down, I don't know where this power is coming from? Just timing?

Timing and the more potential energy of the alcohol in the fuel. Ethanol runs cooler, resists detonation, thus giving you the ability to run more timing.

Think of a N/A motor. If you add more timing you usually get more power to a point. That point is limited by detonation. Add better fuel, the threshold for detonation becomes higher. You are able to run more timing, which makes more power.

Now switch to back to a boosted motor. If the boost is the same and you add more timing, you will make more power to the point of detonation. Add better fuel, you can actually lower boost (tuners do this to keep the fuel pressure stable esp with ethanol) because you can add so much more timing. That will give you more power while running less boost.

LAST question I swear!!!...... I live in Omaha and it gets cold sometimes very cold between December - February. Can I run E30 year round? Or switch back to my AO tune in the winter?

The biggest misconception of E30 is you need to upgrade the fuel system. That is not true. You just need a proper E30 tune and mix it properly.

The higher the ethanol content the more actual fuel volume is required. This puts strain on the stock HPFP and that is when you see fuel pressure dips. Tuners mitigate this by lower boost levels, throttle control, ect.

E30 has the ability to make more horsepower and torque than regular unleaded fuel (87, 89, 91, 93) with less boost. This is because more timing can be applied. However, fuel pressure becomes less stable the harder you push the tune. A good E30 tune you will have no issues with and make more power than almost any unleaded fuel only tune. The fun factor is great, more power is made, and well your wallet suffers because you will have a problem keeping your foot out of it. A "hot" E30 tune you will most likely run into fuel pressure issues, especially in cold climate.

Unleaded fuel has the ability to run more boost (to a point), but is limited to timing. Fuel pressure usually stays well within the stable perimeters.

That depends. Cold weather does effect E30. I can't say you would be 100% safe during the dead of winter. Best bet is to talk with Matt and look at the empirical data and see what he has to say. I am good year around because my winters are mild. If I lived where you do, I would probably have a winter E30 tune and a summer E30 tune.

Because I'm cheap and don't want to have switch tuners! Honestly, if my buddy starts getting ahead of me in his '16 SS sedan, then I'll switch to either Matt or Brad to get back ahead of him :)

You should already just to demoralize him completely.

Damn it! I knew I would have another question!.... Since my car was new I've only ran "canned tunes." How do you datalog? I'm searching YouTube right now, but anyone with experience in this and with Gearhead, please let me know. Some videos say to record Idle, then slow rev to "x" RPM, and WOT in 2nd gear, etc. Is this the same for all tuners?

@mattr66 have you done any testing on how the new upgraded LPFP handles higher E blends on the stock HPFP?

Timing and the more potential energy of the alcohol in the fuel.
Ethanol has less energy than gas so more E is needed to make the same power as gas. This is the reason E is harder in the fuel system.

I didn't specifically say Ethanol has the same energy potential by volume that gas does. I was saying Ethanol give you the potential to make more power.

there are many ways but this is how I do it.
I have a livewire ts and plug it into the obd2 port and then plug my laptop into it and open live link (this is a program). In my case Brad sent a config file with all the data he want to see. so I load this file and take my car to a road you can hall the mail without getting a ticket. turn of TC put in sport mode and paddle shift to 3rd and hit start log on live link. Then bring it up to about 2k and floor it to red line. save the log on the laptop and email to Brad. He then adjust the tune and emails me back a new file to load and do it again until he is happy.

I thought you can simply datalog right into the sct device then come home and plug into laptop, transfer the file then email....?
