So I have taken it easy on car past few days since intercooler install. Finally pushed the car today and it began to get hotter than normal. Coolant temp hit 244. Any ideas or thoughts? My first instinct is to think there is air in system or thermostat is not upgraded. Going to buy a 170 today and get it in and refill coolant system. Any other ideas or things to check?

you didnt burp it fully is the first idea, put the thermostat in upside down, Spring side (deep end) of the thermostat should face into the engine. bad thermostat... however it was just working

So I didn’t remove thermostat for the job. Bought car previously tuned by Ortiz so when I switched I just assumed the thermostat had been upgraded as it was 93 Ortiz tuned and had the air-aide intake on it.

My thought is either don’t burp it enough or the thermostat in it is stock and with the upgraded power and intercooler it’s too much and causing it to over heat but then why hadn’t it happened since. Which makes me think it’s possibly sticking? Going to let it cool and try burping it and then going to retune car. With a complete reset so car relearns its operating parameters

There is def an air pocket, and running a cooler T-Stat I believe is a gimmick.

Here in AZ I ran a stock T-Stat with zero issues.

That makes me feel better, any tips on removing it since we don’t have a bleeder screw.

So I used that, and then make sure your heat in the car is on high, I jacked the front end up and slowly rev the engine, then lower it and squeeze the lower and upper pipes to push the air out. check YT as well.

Turn the heater on full blast with the reservoir cap off and watch the temps. You could also use a ramp or a jack stand and slightly raise the passenger side while you do run it. Just keep an eye on the temps, and once the fluid drops it should be getting close.

That is how I did it.

Maybe it's just me but, I don't see the need to run the heat on full blast in a modern car which constantly runs water through the heater core. Old cars with a heater valve, yeah I can see that.

I run the heater full blast, just to try and control the temps better with the cap off.

Ok I think it’s officially out just caved in and bought the funnel kit got it to hold at a steady 193.57 for a least half an hour. Going to go driving later and make sure it’s all out but fingers crossed that’s all that’s wrong.

sounds normal, watch the temps on the gauge and any monitoring product you use.

Car runs fine under normal driving conditions but after a 20 min drive with a few quick launches and this is the result.
Starting with replacing reservoir cap as I noticed the upper hose collapsed this morning so it’s not venting. Also going to make sure I tightened drain plug fully. Haven’t noticed any coolant leaking though. But did notice slight oil by my fuel pump so I’m thinking I didn’t tighten base plate enough or gasket is shot. So going to address it as well over next few days and travel down the rabbit hole until I figure it out. But noticed when I cut car off when hot went into store and came back out and temps were way up as if cooling system isn’t working once key is turned off. But when sitting idle car will begin too cool slowly. Any thoughts and ideas let me know thanks guys

Wouldn't it make sense to parse out this convo on coolant temps within its' own dedicated thread?

I would say yes but it all didn’t start until I did this freaking IC job so I know something during this job didn’t go right

Yes please very interested. I enrolled in school few days ago to start working toward my ASE. So if nothing else the car is teaching me some new things.

In other news I got the IC put in last night. Below are a few photos. If you would like a step by step about it let me know and I’ll post those instructions here. Two significant things with this job, if you radiator hose clamps are not in the perfect position, well let’s say your in for a real treat. (Bottom hose and PTU cooler line )., se one the size and weight compare to original must be a solid 30-50lb difference. I placed my vape on top of both as a reference to size in thickness.
I'd like to see your instructions, I just ordered the GH IC and I'm curious about the installation.
