being an atx guy who is now going on my 3rd tranny, i've got trans temp, water temp, & oil pressure. i went with electrical for ease of install and senders are cheap. as soon as i get the pan back from being tapped i'll have all the gauges operational and will post more...

i went with autometer lunars fwiw. they are good looking gauges and match my whiteface gauges nicely. not TOO expensive. i mean i could've gotten some C2 or cobalt gauges $$$$!

BTW....guys who are afraid of hot coolant being piped into the cabin....what do you think runs through that heater core under the passenger side dash? JK, I understand your concern..

True, but its on the passengers side. I don't want any hot coolant leaking on my legs/arms/face when I'm driving down the highway at 80mph. If it leaks on my passenger, that sucks, but at least they aren't in control of the car when it happens.

I just installed the tranny temp sender in the existing plug just above the two transmission lines on the case. I'm going to keep it here for a few months to see how accurate it is. No use tapping the pan, if I don't have to. What should I expect for day-to-day tranny temps? Any idea?

no more than 200. 160-180 would be about right. unless i'm way off...

i hadn't thought about using that spot. i may play with it. as long as it's near the hot line and not near the cold one it should be accurate. you want to get the hottest reading from the sender location otherwise it's almost useless...

Yeah, well, like I said, it's "wait and see". The weather has been cold and I haven't been driving it hard, either, but so far the temp hasn't gone above 150. Maybe I just have a cool tranny, but I doubt it.

Well, the weather finally got hot here in Chicagoland recently and I was able to drive around enough to get the old tranny warmed up. I'm running 175-180, right where it should be, and about 190 in beep and creep traffic, so I'd say the spot I chose to put the sensor worked out fine. There's a brass fitting just above the tranny lines. You can't see it from the bottom, but it's easy to get to from above. Didn't have to drop the pan and drill and tap, etc. Just put in a brass fitting with the sensor.
