Fitment issues in many applications and noise. The toughest damn belt I ever dealt with was oem on my genIII. Strong as **** when I had to cut it off.

The 6-rib Gatorback failed very young on my SHO. Separated on the longitudinal grooves. Not the best design.

Gates is where its at!

or they usually make many OEM belts as well......

I wouldn't use Dayco or Goodyear unless I was stranded and needed it to get me home, or just to the first possible place to get a gates! I have yet to see a goodyear fail on its own though, I just don't think they are the quetiest belt around, and they like to stretch. Dayco can be really bad at stretching, I know of 3 different occasions of them stretching out and get noisey until you were out of adjustment LOL...... throw it in the garbage

use RockAuto.com to get your belts. They have the SHO sizes, there is nothing wierd about them.

Gates part number K060445 is the the Alenator/Compressor belt on a MTX SHO

I use mostly use Gates and have used Dayco when I was in a bind. I also have a Gatorback on one of my cars and it was a real ***** to get it on. I swear the OEM belt I took off the GenIII looked like it had thin metal wire/cord in the middle of the belt.

This is incorrect!

That p/n is for a 44.5" belt. It should be K060450, which is 45". Many parts stores list the incorrect 44.5" belt when you order using your car info, so you have to order by part number when purchasing this belt.

89-93 MTX uses 44.5"
94-95 MTX uses 45" or 45.5"

I think the underdrive pulleys use a larger belt, not smaller. Have you done a search for the correct size?

Seems to be the best place to add this. Confirming that the stock AC/alternator pulley on a 94-95 MTX is K060455 or K060450, six rib.

What is harder to find are the belt sizes used with the late SHOshop three piece underdrive pulley set for the 94-95 3.0 MTX, this kit had larger power steering, water pump and alternator pullies but did NOT have an alternate crank pulley. Sizes there are :

Power Steering/Water Pump Goodyear Gatorback 4040600 / 4PK1270
Alternator/AC Goodyear Gatorback 4060465 / 6PK1180

The power steeering/water pump belt is a 4 rib. Gatorback is the only belt I found would not squeal under autocross use.

One more note - running the stock belt with an underdrive alternator pulley puts the idler too close to the battery, have seen this cause the pulley to chew into the battery during autocrosses, etc.

All good info but did it warrant a 9 year bump on a dead thread? Should have just started a new one.
