Finally made the trip back west this last month. Same trip, same roads, same crusing speed. Have made this trip 5 times prior to in tune and Corsa install. Mind you, I highway cruise at 5 over posted speed limit. Slower and the mileage might have been better. The computer is low in its estimated MPG, almost never showed anything higher than 21. Pencil, paper, and calculator yielded 21-23 prior and 25-28 after. So with the Livernois tune and Corsa exhaust, the gain in fuel economy was 20%+. This also included running around town after arrival. BTW, 1100 round trip miles.

I drove from Orlando to Detroit and averaged 25-26MPG according to the computer....
Mind you, I pay very little attention to the posted speed limits. I was usually running 70-85mph depending on traffic.

Very significant numbers Bob. I'll be happy if I can match them.
Your numbers convert to: 17.5 - 19 before tune and 21 - 23.5 after the tune for my Imperial gallon.

I'm not expecting miracles in mileage from a performance car by any means (in case anyone's wondering:)) but I do check mileage strictly for interest's sake and to get an idea of the overall health of the engine. It can tell a story in itself.

BTW, I've never had a car's comp. match actual calculations and its error is always on the optimistic side.
I can't wait to see how mine performs and what my comp says. It should be here by about November at this rate.:rolleyes:

Thanks for sharing -- I'll do same when (and if) I ever get some results.

C.

That's per US gallon right Andrew???? That's pretty good for being a 'tad' over the limit.:)
I'd be happy with that too.

Who is Andrew? I am happy with the mileage. Have to run to Milton this morning, but I think I will obey the speed limit on the 401. Tickets here count....

You're not Andrew? Why not?

It's early yet. Things will improve don't worry. If they don't I'll call you Sam...:nut:

Nuttin' personal tho mate --- just another senior moment.............and the result of WAITING TOO DAMNED LONG FOR MY BLOODY CAR!

Humble apologies my good man and fellow canuck.

About the speed limit on the 4-nothin'1 --- within 20 clicks if aok. (mostly)
If you're still concerned don't do any more than 14 over. Over that is points; under that they can't be bothered.

Have a nice trip on a great sunny day.......:woo-hoo:

I got to get my f'n car afore I completely lose it.:hypno:

They are out for sure. Running laser on the bridge in Cambridge. I was 20 over and they didn't even notice me. Must be hunting for those evil street racers doing 50+ over....

I've been averaging about 20-22 mpg on local commutes but that's with our winter fuel. The oxygenated gas always drops mileage in the winter. Once we switch back to summer fuel, I expect my mileage to improve by 2-3.5 miles per gallon average.

Hmmm, I don't know what I'm doing wrong however my mileage when the car was stock was 15L/100 kms and after the CAI it got a little bit better at 14L..... the tune didn't seem to change anything at all.....
I'm not sure about the conversion but wouldn't that translate to about 17-18 mpg???
Keep in mind that I drive really aggresively and I didn't buy this car for fuel economy  but my numbers just don't jive with the rest of these comments. :braincramp:

2400 mile roundtrip from Northern DE to Tampa with some side trips thrown in. Car is a 2010-no mods-yet. 70-75 mph on I-95. Averaged-by trip computer-right on 25. Can't be upset with that. Used nothing but 93 just as Libya erupted. Car was joy to drive. Haven't had anything close to performance auto since GTO days of mid-late sixties. Gas a tad cheaper then. With those number increases with the tune and exhaust-might amost be able to justify to the wife-long as I don't let her do any calculations on ROI.

Thanks for the post.

You may not be doing anything wrong, Andrew -- or are you Sam, (JK, JK), I don't drive that aggressively and I suspect that Mark (mjhpadi) doesn't either (age diff mainly) so don't be too disappointed.
I'm sure some spirited driving won't net much above 15 to 20 mpg's

BTW, here's a handy dandy conversion chart for quick ref gas mileage/kilometerage.:

Your 14L per 100 km converts to about 20 mpg's per Imperial Gallon or about 17 per US gallon (since it's slightly smaller)..
.......to my mind not bad for 'spirited driving' in these conditions. Expect more in warmer weather.

Cheers,
C.

Colin, you're right...not a lot of heavy footed driving, but I know that when I drive it harder it reflects quickly in the gas mileage. I have found that I can lose (on the car computer) up to .5 mpg going up a local mountain if I have the turbos engaged....however, I sure do get to the top of the mountain quickly!

RetNavy, how do you fill your tank when you calculate your mileage manually? The NASCAR style nossle doesn't really allow you to get a good idea when it's completely full. When I've checked mileage on past vehicles, I get the tank completely full so the fuel used in calculating fuel mileage is as accurate as possible. Also, I've found the onboard fuel mileage calculator on past vehicles to be about 1 mpg optimistic, ie. higher than manual calculation. Anyways, I've gotten about 26 mpg on a long trip with mine... and that's pure highway driving. This should be obvious too, but check your tires pressures!

I've thought about that myself for the new SHO and have decided to take the time to fill it slowly to the top.
It'll take a little fiddling but I think it's doable.....My wife's Fiesta has a similar filler cap and it's not too diff to fill to the top.

From my experience, the computer's estimate of mileage isn't accurate enough for me. I prefer to do it myself for accuracy.

I usually fill the tank as close to the top as I can. I can get about 4 more gallons in from when it first shuts off. For the amount of driving I do, this gives me a lot more time between fill ups. I used to keep an eye on the gas mileage using the on-board calculation, but I haven't been recently... it is what it is. I guess it would be a good indicator of something wrong if you notice a drop.

How many gallons are you guys putting in your car when the gas light is on? Mine goes to about 15 gallons before the pump shuts off. Do you got beyond that? I would love to get more mileage between fill ups.

I don't let the fuel get below a 1/4 tank. It's a pain filling it up all the way to the top, got to go real slow and keep restarting, but like I said, I can get another 4 gallons to go in.

if that is the case. Are these pumps clicking off at 15 gals? I fill mine til it clicks off the 1st time, read that over filling would damage evap system. But I have notice even though my gauge says full it moves off very quickly.

Hello.
Commenting about continuing to completey fill the gas tank, after the gas pump automatically shuts off the gas flow: A gentleman was making inquiries why his car would hesitate and sputter a bit, right after he filled his gas tank. More than one responder asked the gentleman if he continued to bypass the gas pump's automatic shutoff feature, in order to completey fill his tank. Apparently, the issue about overfilling involves some sort of drainage feature that is built into a car's fuel-tank fill-pipe.

So, is it a bad thing, to continue to engage a service station's fuel pump, after its fuel pump automatically stops the gas-filling into your car?

For mileage over a long distance of say 1000 miles it would be accurate enough to fill to near the top and not right to the top anyway.
The little gas that's not put in to 'top off' the tank each time won't have that much baring on mileage over a longer distance.
I'm confident that even this method would be more accurate that the onboard computers, which are estimates at best.
There may be some that are more accurate but I've never had one and I've had this feature in about a dozen cars so far.

I prefer to do mileage checks tank to tank so I take the time to top it off each time. I just make sure I have the extra few minutes to do so, tho, since it is a little fiddly.
It is the only infinitely accurate way of checking your mileage say the 'experts' .. if one wants those kinds of numbers.
