Just did an almost full tank (15.5g-16g tank) trip... the car is currently sitting right above the red marker with 320miles on the trip. That's with 60% Highway-25% City- 15% WOT.

I finished a cross country trip from Michigan to South Carolina last weekend averaging 32mpg with about 800lbs worth of people and luggage through mountains with the cruise set at 78mph.....

I have a 93 ATX and have gotten as much as 31 and as low as 22. I guess my range by using 24 as a benchmark. I have been very lucky with this car, having never gotten less than 26 on the open hiway.

I think people are making up numbers. The highest I've ever gotten was 26. What are your secrets?

(no, I don't really think people are making up numbers, calm down)

Well I have an autotragic, that's not really an option. I guess that might have something to do with it, though!

I normally get 20-26mpg average.

Ive routinely logged 30-32mpg on long trips. Wind these cars up to 80mph and hit the cruise and you get incredible gas mileage:oogle:

Worst Ive ever gotten out of a tank was 14mpg average.

That was the week or so after I installed the TwEECer (among other mods:evilgrin: )

I'm getting anywhere between 23mpg - 29mpg on my '95 ATX. That is with an almost 50/50 mix of city and highway. How you drive has a DRASTIC effect on the mileage. If you keep it under 3k all the time you will get much better mileage but what's the fun in that?

Agreed...

One week I tried to imagine the throttle blade position...

I used that image to try and keep it closed. It was the first week I was able to log over 400 miles without a fillup.

My car, and all other atx's, are only turning 2100 at 60 mph., so even if these were carbureted you should expect 20+, since its not running all that hard. Right? Or maybe not.

I just changed habits to see what I could do. Went 27, 27.5, 28.5 on a mix of rural, highway, light city. There was a little more highway on the last tank, I've also changed highway cruise from 75-80 to 65 or so.

I save my aggression for the autocross track, so around town it's all about limiting abuse and easy on the $ pedal. I accel gently trying to keep <1/3 throttle (watching my mirrors, of course) and usually shift near 2500. I know the hills on my regular path and where I can freewheel, I do. Brake pads are cheaper than clutches and gas so I anticipate stops - lift early and coast. I try to avoid complete stops - looking ahead really helps this. I will skip a gear if accelerating down hill.

I keep good pressure in my tires, not hard but firm. I run only premium. I've kept the car in good maintenance. I thought this would be hard with a Fidanza but I can accel from 13-1400 just fine at light throttle, although I will downshift if I'm going to hold someone up. Usually I still outrun the car behind me at a light.

When I was driving normal to somewhat aggressive, shifting routinely at 3500 and using 1/2 throttle alot, I got 22-23. Looks like the driver can make a big difference.

Even in those 27s and 28, I hit the throttle when called for without hestiation or concern, I just got out of it when it was time.

Once you've gotten used to autocrossing, there is no point in aggressive street driving - you can't even come close to the same adrenaline so why bother?

Nah, I still have a lead foot Jeff. :)

I'm getting about 20-22 mixed, with better if I stay out of it. I did get a drop in mileage when we went to 10% Ethanol.

Autocrossing + po-po trying to pull you over = a LOT more adrenaline! lol I've never had that happen (it was just simple speeding, 69 in a 55 that got me), but I can imagine... think Italian Job.
