Here's what I mean by the "G35" mod for those wondering why a Nissan product is mention in a SHO forum :)

Zmax2 2

Now I am very lucky to have my bud's Maxima club near me to pick the guys brain who made/finished his LED("G35") mod on his Gen IV Max above.

My reason for even posting this right now instead of finishing my own "G35" and surprising everyone is if I were to make 5 more extra sets for our SHO's would any Gen II owner be intersted in purchasing these LED's??? Already pre-soldered and with installation instructions for around...well i'll have to find out how labor intensive this will be but wont be too outrageous of a price.

Any round figures on what I should charge figuring a good 50hrs of straight labor if not more?

That's pretty awesome, I might be interested and I know of someone who would probably be REALLY interested.

OK what about gen 1 tailights, what's involved in install? (I'm fairly gifted at wiring stuff), and do you need any parts as trade? :D Honestly though... this would update the rear of my 91 to match the front very nicely. Also, do you know if it'll envoke the dreaded lamp out indicator light on the dash? Keep me in the loop, but I'm quite interested. thumb pcorn

A nice DVOM is a good friend to figuring out the "Lamp Out" light issue. About gen I install I dont see it being much harder but I would have to just sell you the already made LED's mounted etc and you would figure out the wiring seeing as I dont have a Gen I to work just my Gen II wiring/fitment.

So I would guess i'd be a guessing for you since the instructions i'd make would be for Gen II's and so would fitting them in etc.

Dude...

You're using my ideas... stop it. squint

Seriously, though, I've had this same sort of mod in mind for the distant future. I'd like to make ALL of my exterior lights LEDs (except headlights since I don't think that would work very well. shrug )

The one thing I was going to do differently was instead of making them able to display "SHO", I was going to make it show Yamaha Tuning Forks as my taillights and have them switch to full blast lines like yours only when I apply the brakes.

The bad part is, I don't know enough about LEDs to know just how bright they would be.

What helps me out is two Maxima's that are loacted near me that have this DONE, it was all done by them so they've helped me out greatly, and for the SHO it'll be a whole lot easier because there just easy square(s) shape(s) unlike the Maxima above which from my bud is a PITA compared to the SHO "easy" tail light design.

And selling the instruction would make it way too easy for others :p why would I do that?

Update: 12/25/03

Just a small update on my progress mounting board for the LED's already cut/finished, now wiring from LED's to stock bulb wiring harness being figured to work right for parking/brake/turn signal for whole light assembly too :D (no more outer corner blinker).

A lot of time and effort has been put into this project and my LED's haven't even arrived yet lol, my source has a 2-3wks waiting list but well worth it for 300 of them for less than $100. I also mapped out whats going to be soldered and components to solve the "Lamp Out" issue, fast blinking issue as well for turn signals, and how many LED's per side, so far I'm going for 40-60LED per side still undecided and 3-5rows of 8-12 LED's.

BTW when I receive my red LED's I'll be ordering super white LED's for the reverse lights, would people be interested in a pre-made board for sale just for there reverse lights? Should be an easy simple mod for those who want the LED look but not for there main brake lights.

Well thats my "mini" update for now guys I'll keep you posted later in Jan as for my progress and answer any questions in the post in between the time, expect some pics for the next update.

I definitely want a set man for sure. I wouldn't mind staying with the stock bulb-style backup lights, though, as I have some really nice hyper-whites in there right now that look good.

So far I am calculating total cost at around $125-$200(3% pay pal charge already included), just for the fact that I have to crank out as many sets as I can between school, 40-50hrs work, and a little club life  . For those who think its outrageous just read why below, over 80% of costs is in parts.

Now if people are willing to wait 3-4wks after paying for them, then the price will drop somewhat considering my cheaper source out of the US, but if you want them ASAP that week my local same-day source for 50-60 LED's per side and 68 misc. resistors at $0.50-$1.00 each will run you at just over $100 just in parts plus mounting material/board/wiring etc. AND my labor which I will not make much on will also add some on.

The SHO LED tail light kit will come with the LED's all DC 12V ready, mounted, cut to fit "custom" LED board, very detailed instructions, color-coded wiring, copies of 1992-1995 ALL DATA wiring diagram(maybe Gen I if install/wiring is similar and board size as well), Many digi cam pics, tool list if so needed. All the customer will do is disassemble tail light assembly mount/silicone LED board to its location, reassemble, run LED board wiring through the stock bulb hole and cut/butt connect LED wiring with stock harness wiring, and go blind some people the legal way with there new LED brake lights thumb .

BTW for those imagining what 5rows of LED's will do for you at night when braking here is a better picture with all them on instead of the 3row "parking/driving" lights shot you see above of my boys Maxima.

And what Super White 15Kmcd LED's will do for your reverse lights evil_gri

Just a question, do they dim half way with the driving lights on, I know you said the 3 rolls on the Max was for driving lights, but I thought they were brake lights.
I don't think it'll be a good idea to have the back driving lights on that bright, it'll look like you're trying to stop all the time.

BTW I think the 3 rolls look better than 5.

No way to make them dim to my knowledge and I dont know about dimming LED's I have never seen them.

If you look at the top pictures those are his driving lights seeing as his spoiler/3rd brake light is off, and in the bottom pictures it is on.

The brightness factor is another reason why I will be doing 5rows with only the #1 & #5 row wil be lit for driving/parking lights. As far as state inspection/emissions the Max above has had no problem from CT or NY. I wont being doing just 3rows because I then I can only either have one row on for driving lights and then 2 for stopping/turning or the top/bottom on and only ONE row on for braking turning which none of the 3row options sound safe to me.

Yea there also $30K-$40K+ cars lol, but for some odd reason I think it would be a lot more than $0.50-$1.00 for each LED for LED's that dim. I just searched for some and cheapest price was $5.65 shipped for EACH LED so thats about $340 total for both sides and only 3rows with 30 LED on each side.

So basically its up to you how much you want to spend on this LED project I'm trying to keep it at a "decent" price which wont even touch the above $300 price..

So will the LEDS illuminate only when the brake pedal is pushed down or will they be that bright ALL the time when the headlights are on? I am hoping only when the brake pedal is engaged. shrug pcorn

I was just wondering. I didn't know there were LEDs that dim, thought maybe they had some conventional bulbs in there for driving lights application.

SolidState:
start scouring the junk yards for a busted up g35 or deville.

new transport truck trailers have LEDs now too...
I'm guessing your making your own LED brake lights right? :p

Cause i'm set on either 5-6rows with the top and bottom always on for driving/parking lights and then the middle for braking/turn signal.

Now would you guys want just want the outer panel/LED's to blink while turning or have both LED panels blink when turning? Simliar to the current mod of having both bulbs blink by using a jumper cable to the inner bulb.
