Funny thing

Back after a weekend in LA. Took the white car. She ran HOT all the way down there. About between the N and O range. Going up the hills before LA, she went over the N. Nursed her over. Dreading the drive back, left at 9 at night. Still 80 outside. @#$@%@#!!!! Went up the hills, temp went through the roof. Car felt fine though. Couldnt understand it.
Stopped for gas and pulled off the Leather cover (Colgan Bra) and took off the rubber strip that protects the back off the hood where the wipers are. The bastard ran fine all the way back. Never misbehaved. I couldnt get over 80 without the temp soaring before, and towards the end I was averaging 95. Stayed right between O and R.

Makes me wonder.............the leather cover must have been blocking the flow of air, and the strip by the wipers running across the engine bay must reduce airflow over the intake. Take it off, people!!!!!

Yeah, I noticed that with my Monte Carlo. Even with the screen only over the grill, it cuts airflow.

On another note, I achieved the most unbelievable mileage EVER on this trip. I did 270 miles on exactly half a tank. On the way back, hammering it, i did about 320 on one tank.

my buddy's uncle who drives a monte ss aero (the ugly ones) came with the bra with the screen. his car would overheat with the screen until he cut it out. after he cut out the screen, the car ran better.
on my 84 cutlass i never had a porblem with the bra being on it, granted it didn't have a screen
