I just bought a 97 SHO with 52k on it i have owned it not even 2 weeks.

car seems great other than this funny vibration coming from up front passenger side. If it was my daytona i'd say immediately its the HUB. but i took it to a ford dealer and he says the hub is tight. he said my shock is a lil loose and that it may be my rack. it makes no noise when its sitting still when u turn the steering left or right... rack seems tight. you pull it hard to the left it makes a very low grinding noise that can ALMOST be felt in the gas pedal. I am eager to dispose of it and any suggestions would be great. i would swear its the hub just getting old but then again i have owned this car for a very short time. i know it has a sealed bearing assembly like my daytona tho,. thing is if my daytona hubs make noise they would have a little play and this SHo has no play in the wheels. ??? also if i put the car in nuetral and glide its still there... seems very steering related. what r the signs of a dying rack? ty in advance!!

For a car of that age and mileage, you're not likely looking at a major component failure like a rack or hub. More likely it's either a brake/rotor issue, or the loose strut (I'm assuming that's what you meant since the SHO doesn't have shocks). Could possibly be a ball joint or a tie rod problem also. Any PS rack turned hard against the stops (which shouldn't be done BTW) will make some noise and/or vibration.

It takes something out of balance to cause a vibration. Anything loose in the suspension can allow the vibration amplitudes to be greater, but it takes in imbalance to start it. Get your tires balanced. Properly.
