Fuel Vapor Smell - Sometimes?

['92 SHO] I get a fuel vapor smell sometimes, in particular when it's warm and the gas tank is a bit less then full. But, it's not constant.

Also, the fuel pump is making a whining sound when the car is running; you can hear it both inside the car and standing near the rear of the car. Might these two issues be related?

Or could this be related to the functioning of the carbon canister system?

Where do you smell the gas smell.... in the car, at the back by the fuel door, at the front with the hood open or closed?

Open your hood and take a look for some seeping wet spots.
Have a look under the car and find you plastic gas line and look for damp spots.
