Well I was wondering if any one has thought about or even tried to convert the engine to run on alcohol. With the price of gas now I can not afford to drive it anymore. i had to pay 2.60 for a gallon of gas.

I'd give my eye teeth for 91 octane at $2.60/gallon. We see it at $2.95 in California.

Save the straight alky for moonshine. You would need bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump for the alcohol because it contains far less btus (hydrogen) per gallon. And your mileage would be cut in half too.

Here's a fuel question, does using premium give you better gas mileage? Enough to make it worth the extra money?

I've noticed that Chevron premium 91 octane gives me about 10% better fuel economy versus the 87 octane. The price is about 10% difference so, no real dollar savings. I do feed a can of Berrymans B-12 Chemtool every 3-4 fillups. Helps keep carbon deposits down and raises octane.

The news said premium gives you better gas mileage, I thought they were full of ****, but I figured I'd ask.

Chemtool, eh? Never heard of using it like that.

Primium gas has a higher flash point to reduce pre det AKA knock. With the higher flash point it tends not to burn as clean as reg unleaded. Some guys will swear that all you should run in a SHO is premium. I quit running premium in my SHO 5 years ago, which in turn reduced the frequency of cleaning the EGR due to excessive carbon deposites. I can't tell any difference in gas millage and have never had an issue with knocking. I don't go road race mine or beat it to death either. So if your pushing your car and having knock problems that is about the only reason I could think you would want to use Premium gas. Also if your having knock problems on reg unleaded than maybe you need a new knock sensor.

It's been several years since the last time I can remember this question come up but if my memory servers me right Primium also produces less BTU's which equates to less power for equal volume of regular gas.

Wow, That is intresting. I have always used 93 octane in my car until recently, started putting 89 in it. I thought about just sticking with the lower octane and adding some booster every now and then.

You wont know if your car NEEDS a higher octane until you can see what the EEC is doing to the timing.

Once I started using the Tweecer, I started using 91. With 87 octane The EEC was backing the timing off a decent amount. The 91 has reduced that considerably. Further advanced timing = more potential performance.

Mileage difference? Probably very slight.
Performance difference? Noticable.

When the motor needs a higher octane in order to run at full potential, it NEEDS a higher octane.

Speaking of gasoline.... I just filled up and squeezed 19.2 gallons in the SHO, (more than I have ever put in there before), at the cost of exactly 50 bucks!! :omg: ......and that was 89 octane at $2.59 per gallon!!!!!
The pumped clicked off at around 16 gallons but I kept on putting more and more in a little at a time until it finally started overflowing a bit, (no gas got on the car), and I then I stopped. 19.239G is what is actually on the ticket.
Now I will have to see just how many miles I get from this tank. I drive a mix of city and interstate just about every day so it will be intresting to see how far I go.

Premium and regular gasoline have the same BTUs/gallon. Premium just burns slower which allows for more advanced timing. The advanced timing is what produces more Hp.

Ford did, they made more than a few flex fuel tauii that run on the stuff. as far as converting, what everone else said is true. to expand on that you can read this ebook. I found it quite informative, that is, back when I had thoughs of an alcohol burning taurus. in the real world unless your a hippie, not only that, but a hippie with lots of time, alcohol is not a practical long term motor fuel.
