There are already some discussion on this subject but as the pumps are differents from year to year. I took time to make a good research on these (as I have to replace mine on a 96) I put my observation here because it's usefull infos which can save lot of time and money.
Finding only a low mileage 99 DOHC in my area, I was wondering if the differences over the years is so important. Comparing photos from diffrents years, the pump assembly seems very similar. I decided to take this pump.
It fits well but I saw 3 differences (which can't make the swap impossible) :
1) The wiring plug was the same but in reverse position (!?). The 96 pump has a female plug (metal holes) and 99 has a male (metal pins). We cut it and rewired all 7 to the old plug. The pump itself has the same specs. Ford makes this stupid change on the 1997 plug.
2) The electrical plug on the pump motor isn't the same. It seems unique to 96 and others years are the same (smaller on these). Aftermaket motor pump just offer you often to cut the pump plug and rewire it. (Don't mind with this if you replace all the fuel pump assembly.)
3) The pressure sender wire have different lenght but have the same plug.
96 have this sensor just beside the pump at around 6 inches (short wire to it from the pump, also you need a 3rd hole on the top of the tank if you replace it).
97, it's at the same place (6 inches wire).
98 has this hole on the pump assembly (very short wire, 2-3 inches)
99 has this hole on the rear of the tank (very long wire making possible to fit on any other years)
You can also rewire the sensor plug with your old wire but be sure to wrap all correctly if you take the car during winter.
Edit : I also saw that we can put an 3.0 OHV SLO pumps (not only DOHC as I thought at the start) :
"In stock trim, our 19lb/hr injectors are just right, so a 110lph pump will supply plenty of fuel to the engine for normal HP numbers."

Hope it's help,
P.S. The pump is running well since. (18 aug. 2017)
